“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This is a really excellent B&B - clean, cosy and well-equipped rooms. The decor is lovely and nostalgic - everywhere you look there is a piece of memorabilia, and it makes for such an interesting environment. The house has such great character. Expect no generic hotel decor here!

What I liked most was the consideration given by my host. When showing me round my room, he took the time to show me how things worked. Being there by myself, he gently nudged me in the direction of a breakfast time which would allow me to have the dining room to myself. There's 3 rooms, and only 2 tables, so his subtle suggestion that I move my breakfast time by 15 minutes avoided me having to have breakfast with one of the other couples, thereby saving any awkwardness for them or myself. He very kindly suggested the pub over the road for my evening meal, advising me that I wouldn't feel out of place there by myself. I had earmarked a restaurant in town but being too exhausted to face the walk, I took him up on his suggestion. It was unbelievably cheap, the portions were massive, and I ate every mouthful.

The following morning, I was about to set off to walk the last 15 miles of my trek, to Bowness on Solway. My host handed me a couple of packets of biscuits, and told me they were a little treat for my walk.

Lovely. Highly recommended.

“Excellent location and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

Had read Trip advisor review before booking this B@B so had high expectations before we arrived. It is an excellent B@B and only 10 - 15 min easy walk from the Centre/train station. The room (number 2) was very clean and comfortable and very quiet room/location.
It was everything you want with a nice welcome and atmoshere and a nicely cooked breakfast and very good value for money.
Nearby Casa Romana Italian resturant good value.
We hope to book again one day.

“A good host and a convenient position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We enjoyed our one-night stay at Holly Trees en-route from the Highlands, and found Stephen to be an excellent host. Our room was small but comfortable, with a nice, sunny bathroom.

It was raining, so we dodged puddles to walk into the main part of the city, where we visited the beautiful cathedral, and a pub for a warming ale. We used another pub, very close to the B&B for dinner, on Stephens recommendation. It was, as promised, "cheap and cheerful".

Breakfast was really nice, so we were happy with our stay.

“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We only spent one night here on the 29th April en-route to Scotland, and was quite sad it was not for longer. The location was perfect, and we walked into town, and there were many restaurants close by. The room was perfect, wtih lots of extra touches, very clean and with a delicious breakfast cheerfully served in the morning, and a very helpful host. We will definitely stop there again if we decide to do Hadrian's wall in depth.

“Huge breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2011

We arrived soaked after riding the last 2 hours in heavy rain and the host kindly offered to dry any clothes we needed for the next days ride, which was appreciated.

The room was immaculately clean and very comfortable too.

Breakfast was huge and tasty too. So big infact that we could not even finish, which is unusual!
