This is a really excellent B&B - clean, cosy and well-equipped rooms. The decor is lovely and nostalgic - everywhere you look there is a piece of memorabilia, and it makes for such an interesting environment. The house has such great character. Expect no generic hotel decor here!
What I liked most was the consideration given by my host. When showing me round my room, he took the time to show me how things worked. Being there by myself, he gently nudged me in the direction of a breakfast time which would allow me to have the dining room to myself. There's 3 rooms, and only 2 tables, so his subtle suggestion that I move my breakfast time by 15 minutes avoided me having to have breakfast with one of the other couples, thereby saving any awkwardness for them or myself. He very kindly suggested the pub over the road for my evening meal, advising me that I wouldn't feel out of place there by myself. I had earmarked a restaurant in town but being too exhausted to face the walk, I took him up on his suggestion. It was unbelievably cheap, the portions were massive, and I ate every mouthful.
The following morning, I was about to set off to walk the last 15 miles of my trek, to Bowness on Solway. My host handed me a couple of packets of biscuits, and told me they were a little treat for my walk.
Lovely. Highly recommended.
