We stayed for 2 nights at Elton House on a B&B basis. The main reason for choosing this hotel was its proximity to friends who live nearby and we were visiting for the weekend. The rate we paid was heavily reduced by making use of one of the online discount voucher/deals companies. We arrived quite late on Friday night after a relatively long drive, and were welcomed by friendly reception staff. We were able to order some food to eat in the bar before the kitchen closed. The bar meal was a good size and tasty, especially with the Estrella Damm lager being refreshingly cold.

Our allocated room was on the ground floor of the annexe building, and was of a good size. The bathroom was clean and the towels were large, fluffy and warm (due to a mad-hot towel rail). Parking at the hotel was very good, never having to struggle to find a convenient space.

The breakfast was one of the best I have been served for a long time. The usual selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts and juices were available buffet-style, but the full English breakfast was cooked to order and extremely good with local sourced produce, including tasty thick bacon and great sausages. I think they managed to squeeze 2x sausages, 2x rashers bacon, baked beans, hash browns, omelette, black pudding, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes onto the plate.

There were a few minor gripes that have prevented me from giving 4+ stars to everything; the bed in our room had a mattress that dipped on one side, so it felt like you were rolling out of bed if you slept near the edge, but I didn't feel it was significant enough to raise with the staff. Also, there is WiFi coverage at the hotel, but the signal coverage is quite poor hence we were not able to reliably connect to it. Again, we were not there on business, so it was not a problem.

Overall, one of the major plusses of this hotel is the friendliness of the staff who ensured that everything we requested was dealt with in a positive, polite and friendly manner. Even when we asked to checkout 30 minutes later than usual this was not a problem.
