“Bitter Sweet Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

A bitter sweet experience. Upon entering the hotel I asked the man in reception for a pot of coffee and preceeded to tell him I was going to be joined by another 4 people and we wanted to discuss booking a wake so could we be seated in a quiet corner in the hotel lounge. The young man pointed me in the direction of the lounge but I got the impression he wasn't listening to me and that it wasn't his job to deal with me. After waiting for half an hour, the coffee still had not arrived. I returned to the desk and asked the same young man where my coffee was and he told me to go to the bar and order it. The bar was not where I wanted to be to discuss funeral arrangements and the young man was very dismissive of me and rude. In fact he walked away from me whilst I was speaking to him. This was witnessed by a more mature member of staff who apologised for his rudeness and told me his name, Anthony, who was infact the the Duty Manager for that day. The lady then brought me complimentary coffee and said the chef, who had witnessed Anthony's poor customer relations skills, had asked would we like some freshly baked complimentary Raspberry and white chocolate muffins. Had they not redeemed the situation so professionally this review would have received very low rating from me, however, as a consequence we did not chose this hotel to provide a hot buffet for 150 people. I hope senior management read this review and severly reprimand this member of staff and send him on some Customer Service training.

Thank you for taking the time to bring your recent experience to our attention. I was extremely disappointed and concerned to hear your comments; there can never be any excuse for rudeness or bad manners. I can assure you that your comments have addressed and the member of staff in question has been dealt with accordingly. I would like to apologise on behalf of everyone at the hotel for what you had to endure, during what must have been a very difficult time. I hope that the way the other two members of staff attempted to rectify the situation is enough to convince you that what you experienced was an aberration from our usual standard of customer service.

“Hotel OK but room a bit small for a long stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed for 7 night while attending event at Sheffield Arena. Room was small with little room apart from the bed and a shortage of sockets for laptops, kettle, mobile phones etc. Good touchs were a bottle of wine very night and sandwhiches when we got in late. Downside was that there were no fresh fried eggs on any of the seven mornings (set like bullets of 5 mornings!) and on two mornings we were put in a different room for breakfast where the hot water for the tea was from flasks and wasn't hot enough. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to use the leisure facilities, but they looked reasonable.

I'm sorry that you found the room to be too small for your requirements. Under normal circumstances we offer a complimentary upgrade to a larger room for guests who stay with us for longer than a couple of nights; however, we were unable to offer this during your stay due to pre-existing bookings. I have reported your comments regarding the fried eggs to our Head Chef and wish to thank you for bringing the matter to our attention. Should you book with us again, please contact me directly and I will ensure that you are upgraded to a larger room.

“Good night”

I stayed at the Carlton Park hotel in Jan 2012 whilst on a works do. The hotel itself was nice and clean in public areas. check in was easy. My room was 309 the room was clean and tidy with nice shower gel and hand wash in the bathroom. I had a good night sleep. I would recommend this hotel for both business and leisure. There was an Abba night when i was there and everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves.
The most important thing to me is that the bed and room was clean.
Breakfast was buffet and plenty to choose from- full English, cereal etc. The 2 waiting staff where very nice and a credit to the hotel.

It's a pleasure to read your nice comments about the hotel. You're quite right, everyone did enjoy the Mamma Mia Starburst Party Night! We hope to see you again soon, maybe at one of our Dinner and Disco events!

“Excellent value for money!”

Stayed for one night, mamma mia tribute night, had a wonderful time, arrived and checked in at lunchtime to make Most of the facilities. Food was excellent in the bar and the food was even better at the dinner dance. Room was nice and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, I would particularly like to thank the bar and waiting staff throughout the whole stay they were friendly, professional and nothing too much trouble, a real credit to the hotel! My only negative was the reception, I felt some of the the staff lacked warmth and rarely smiled, first impressions are key but as our interaction was only limited to a few mins of our whole stay all the positives far outweigh this, a warm smile would easily solve this!! As I left the next day my car was iced over and the gardener very kindly offered to scrap my car, it was a lovely gesture and again shows they want to go the extra mile. would definitely stay again.

I'm pleased that you enjoyed your weekend with us recently. The staff pride themselves on positive interaction with guests and so I'm pleased that you found most of them to be pleasant. I'll certainly pass your comments on to our Reception Manager regarding your welcome; you're quite right, a smile costs nothing and goes a long way. We hope to see you back at the Carlton Park Hotel soon.

Really enjoyed our one night stay, excellent food in the restaurant, relaxed atmosphere and very good value for money. Only let downs were very hot room in the night and dripping shower head but would definetly reccomend it.

Thank you for your nice comments. I'm sorry that you found the room to be rather hot; it's difficult to please everyone in these cold conditions! The temperature can be regulated by turning the thermostat on the radiator. Please accept my apologies for the dripping shower head; we could have moved you to another room or attempted to fix the problem, but I appreciate that these things are often only noticed in the middle of the night when they are keeping you awake! We hope to see you again soon
