Despite some very harsh reviews i decided to book into the Royal. My first impressions were how very friendly and helpful the staff were. The Royal is not a palace but it is clean, warm and comfortable. My room was upgraded without charge and had tea/coffee facilities, modern flatscreen (easy to use) TV and...wait for it...hot running water lol!
Can imagine it being loud at the weekend because it is in a town centre; i stayed midweek and it was very quiet and peaceful. The cooked breakfast was excellent.
I will definately stay there again.

We stayed here for a family wedding. No sleep due to constant loud noise. Food was OK. Room very poor, no hot water in shower, unable to open windows, no phone...the list goes on. Stay anywhere but here it is truly awful.

Stayed during mid week with colleagues. Shower didn't work, bathroom sink taps wobbly, black 'chiche' bedroom furniture covered in dust. No phone in room to ring down for assistance.

Barman had massive issue serving drinks at 10:55pm, advising we would have to pay in cash only and take our drinks to our rooms. He obviously wanted to go home.

Take your phone if going outside for a smoke as they lock the doors and you need to call them to open - again could be because the 'helpful' staff member wanted to go.

We booked the Royal assembly hall for my daughters naming ceremony. We held the ceremony there and then had a sit down dinner for 80 ppl. There was no one there on the day to be the event organiser and although the staff tried there best they had no one to give them any direction.
I was told on the day we couldnt fit eough tables in the room to accomodate my guests!! So i had to try and rearrange all my table plans, there didnt appear to be enough food as portion sizes werent consistant, and for the 3 young children that we had there they were not openly offered any food and we had to ask for it for them!
We had the room booked til 12pm but were refused service at the bar at 10pm as they said that was what time we had it booked til. This just touches on the problems i had on the day and i have made a complaint with no formal appology from the royal and they have made no attempt to compensate us for the stress on the day and our disatisfaction.
I wish i had cancelled the event when i first booked the event and after sending out all my invites and with just 6 wks to go i found out from one of my guests that the fun run was on the same day and the roads would all be blocked off til about 3 and our ceremony was meant to start at 2pm!! As a business you would expect such a big events to be in their diary!!!!
All in all my guests enjoyed the day but all the problems that went on behind the scenes totally spoilt what should have been a happy occasion for me and my family but i feel poorly treated and angry to have spent such a lot of money with them to help organsie an event when i could have done a better job myself!. I certainly wont be coming back for any other events.
