“ITS BARGAINTASTIC!”

We were dreading staying at this hotel reading the awful reviews but as we paid less than £25 for a family room - what the heck! So we were quite suprised to find a very clean and tidy hotel... ok so the edges are a wee bit frayed and there's the odd bit of bathroom mould stains but lighten up everyone what do you expect? We'll stay here again when we need somewhere economical to crash on a fairly comfy and clean bed; quiet (room at the back) with clean towels and great heating and £25 for the four of us!!!!!! MENTAL! We didn't do the breakfast in a bag (there's a Greggs bakers opposite). Happy days.

“A Good Budget Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We stayed in this hotel for one night on 3rd December 2011. We had a family room, after reading several of the reviews written about this hotel previously I must admit I was really not looking forward to staying there, but I needn't have worried - it was nice.

The room was at the back of the hotel so away from any traffic noise or other noise from the pub situated directly in front of the hotel. The room itself was quite big even for a family room - if the sofa bed had been made up for a family there still would have been enough room to move around without falling over anything.

The room was clean and tidy and the water was hot and there were lashings of it. The bed sheets were clean and we were provided with two great big white fluffy towels. It was okay for the odd night or two, it's a good budget hotel and we slept well.

“Get what you pay for, fine for the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Stayed here for one night for the very reasonable price of £19 (@ £9.50 each this is pennies, what is all the fuss about). Staff were friendly, free parking and loads of places to eat and drink within walking distance. Room was clean and tidy and everything you would expect for a budget hotel. There was the option to have breakfast in the Harvester which is right next door but we chose not too. Overall absolutely fine, would recommend if it's at the budget rate as it's just as cheap as getting a taxi. Wouldn't pay more than £30 though.

“Dont stay here if you value your health!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011 via mobile

I booked this hotel for me and my sister, as it was reasonably priced (on offer) and closeish to the NEC. I wish we had read the reviews first!

We had booked a family room, check in was quick, but when we checked the room it was only a double. After a 10min wait at reception, whilst the receptionist chatted on the phone to what sounded like the next shift person(customers are waiting call them back!) she took a further 15 mins to move us, and this was after she asked me if I was sure there wasnt a sofa in the room. Pretty sure I wouldn't miss something as big as a sofa!

So when we were finaly moved, the room stank of wet dog. I didn't realise that travelodge allowed pets, but according to the reception, you can have up to two animals per room for an extra £20. So definitely don't stay here if you have allergies, the combination of damp and old animal hair, that probably hasn't been cleaned up properly, gave me a wheezy chest and I havent needed my inhaler in two years!!

The place is tired and in need of a referb. Plus they need to keep the heating on low in the rooms, if not just to keep the damp at bay.

“A blemish on the Travelodge brand”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Of the various Travelodges I have stayed in, this was by far the worst: tired, grubby and run down.

The good: a warm welcome at check-in, free parking and convenient location to the event we were attending.

The bad: inconsistent water temperature and lack of preparation by the housekeeping staff. (Despite knowing the room was for double occupancy, there was only one set of pillows and towels meaning we had to trundle off to Reception to ask for what should have been in the room initially.)

The ugly: the lack of maintenance, particularly the bathroom.

Given the likely cost of refurbishing this site, I would question whether Head Office should even continue to keep it open.
