“Perfectly adequate.”

Just back from a business trip and stayed one night at the Travelodge, Taunton. This hotel provides what you pay for - it's very reasonably priced no frills accommodation. If I'd wanted more I would have paid for it.
On arrival, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. My room was a very good size (a family room) but cold on arrival - however the heater was easy to use and heated the room very quickly.
I arrived in the evening and when I put on the lights they were very dim and I wondered whether this was deliberate to mask any flaws. In the morning however, even though the walls could have done with a lick of fresh paint, this didn't turn out to be the case.
The bathroom was spotlessly clean and it looked as though the tiling had only just been completed. The shower was forceful.
The double bed was of a good size and was comfortable. Sheets were crisp and clean.
The mugs provided had not been washed - it looked like they had been rinsed but there was residual tea coloured water at the bottom and tea drips on the outside of them.
The only toiletries provided were a small bar of soap but that was perfectly adequate for an overnight stay - and they do tell you this on the website.
This Travelodge doesn't have a restaurant facility but they do offer you breakfast for £4.50 and actually it isn't a problem because there's a Sainsburys across the road and this has a cafe; there's a pub/restaurant next door which I'm told is very nice and there's a Pizza Hut within easy walking distance.
All in all, after feeling a little concerned having read the reports, I was pleasantly surprised as for me this hotel provided a perfectly comfortable and clean place to stay for the price paid.

“Travellodge just seems to get worse”

We had the misfortune to book into the Taunton Travelodge for a couple of days after Christmas. We arrived at the hotel around 2.30pm to be told that if we wanted to get into our room we would have to pay extra!!!! What hotel keeps you out of prepared rooms for 45mins just to take more money from you? Anyway went had to go away and come back. We were shown to our room which had a light bulb missing and the battery in the remote for the TV was flat. During the night my wife felt her leg being scratched. There was a very sharp peice of metal poking through the mattress. when we looked is was obvious that this was a large whole and we assumed that the metal which had drawn blood was part of the mattress. We got up to shower. We were able to turn the shower on but could not turn it off. When we complained the manager told us that the room had be checked prior to letting it to us.!!!!! She also said that she was not allowed to be in the same room as the guests so was unwilling to inspect the room. All she was really interested in was making us fill in an accident form. She said that she had no authority to deal with the matter and could only reach her manager via email. We insited on a refund for the first night and were moved into another room. Aviod this hotel at all costs!!!!

Have stayed at this hotel twice over the last 2 years and have found it to be just what I paid for. It was a comfortable room both times - the only problem I had the second time was that I requested twin beds as I was travelling with my son - but we overcame this problem. Will definitelky be staying here this year for my nannual visit to Taunton

“a pleasure to stay here!!”

we arrived at this travelodge late at night after a very hairy trip on the M5 in severe weather conditions. we were greeted with a very firndly lady on reception who immediately made us feel very welcome. we had two young children with us and she made them feel very welcome too. we had booked the family room and it was fab. very clean, very warm and with everything you needed for a nice cup of tea and a good nights sleeps. the bathroom was very clean and well presented and although this travelodge is in a busy business park, the rooms were very quiet. we awoke the next morning feeling very refreshed and ready to finish our journey to minehead. you could even have breakfast, if required. i would definately recommend the taunton travelodge to anyone and will definately be booking to stay there again.
