“How is this hotel still in business??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

The car park had a number of cars which were not road worthy and looked as though they were from a salvage garage. The bay window to the dining room had a hole large enough for a fist to go through and this was 'repaired' with a plastic bag......from the outside!!
The whole hotel was dirty and simply looked as though it had not changed its decor since the late 70's. The bedroom had a carpet one stuck to and a bathroom we felt dirtier coming out of! The ceiling had previously been troubled by water damage but this had not been repaired so a large crack was running along the corner of the room.
How this place is in business never mind charging £78 per night for a twin I will never know! DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. The inspectors would have a field day.

“Needs a visit from the Hotel Inspector!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

Had a over night stay at the Falcon. We were with 3 friends all of whom had separate rooms, we had a double. The hotel looked as if it had seen better days, peeling wallpaper, damp patches and in need of a lot of TLC. The rooms were relatively clean but the grouting in all of our 4 bathrooms were dirty and in parts black. The fittings in our room were the epitomy of 1970's bad taste- sun gold!
We waited 40 minutes for our cooked breakfast to arrive and shared one pot of tea (meant for 2) amongst the 5 of us. There were eventually just 9 people at breakfast so the kitchen was not exactly under pressure. The breakfast itself although adequate was nothing really special. Would we stay here again - no!

“Don't stay at the Falcon”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

This was a terrible hotel. My friends and I were down for a party, and between us booked four rooms. The double room was not bad, but the rest were not very nice. They were pretty shabby, not that clean, and with very out dated bathrooms. My room had a fire surround that was just propped up against the wall! The wallpaper was peeling in places from damp, and to top it all there was no hot water for our showers before we went out. The whole place was sadly neglected, and I do not think had been decorated in years. The breakfasts were OK however, and the landlord and his helper did their best to accommodate our requests, although two of our party had to wait over 30 minutes for their breakfast! There were electric heaters in the dining room that should have been condemned years ago. The bar and TV lounge reeked of damp, and the windows were rotten. All in all, very poor value for money.

“Not so awful at all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2006

Being accustomed to automatic upgrades in the poshest of hotels (The Princes suite in the Trianon Palace is still my favourite), I saw the previous review as a challenge to my stamina, endurance and snobbery, that I really had to accept.

I needed a room in the area for my family, from which we could, coincidentally, attend a wedding.

My long suffering brood are used to me disregarding their health and safety to satisfy my own curiosity.

My 2 year old, Eddie, who is usually a perfect little lad, can, like all 2 year olds, be a bit of a handful on a bad day.

Following the "awful " review, this seemed just the place to ensure that if our little angel did morph into a boneless blubbery brat in the hall while I carried the bags and posh frocks upstairs, we might not have to worry about the staff peering down their noses at the damp patch left on the floor once we had scraped him up.

What a great decision it proved to be.

Admittedly with low expectations we should have been easy to impress, but the hotel proved to be very easy to find and conveniently close to the motorway, the owner Graham carried my bags unbidden up to our huge room, and he and his son proceeded to look after us all in a thoroughly unobtrusive but diligent manner. They were especially good to Eddie, who, when there were no other guests to disturb after a quality English breakfast, was allowed to explore. What a treat to have the staff preventing him feeding himself through the shoe shine machine, while we could read the Sunday papers in peace.

I don't want to belittle the opinion of the previous reviewer, who clearly enjoyed a level of service that would have left me equally as annoyed. My own experiences suggest that they have taken his service criticisms on board. I did observe that the wall paper was curling away from the wall in places, as was the paint from the ceiling in the corner; the once white woodwork was yellow and chipped around the door, and the huge enamel bath also had two chips in it, but they were not in places that interfered with the pleasures to be had in a lagre comfortable room or an enormous enamel bath of steaming bubbles, and the whole place was spacious, clean, warm and dry. The only things that would be really nice to find improved on our next stay would be a brighter light above the bathroom mirror, and a commercial quality shower head to replace the current item that was quite adequate, but could be better. They have seven shower heads in the Princes Suite at the Trianon Palace don’t you know? (oops, I think I've just failed the snobbery part of my challenge after all, damn it!)

Suffice to say, we enjoyed very good value for money, had a very pleasent stay and would love to stay again.
