“call it a day”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

I have titled my review, call it a day, because that (in my opinion) is what the owner of this establishment should do. People are turning up to this place expecting to stay in a idyllic country retreat judging by the photo in the ad. dont be fooled. the whole place is in need of a major structural and cosmetic overall. the place is stuck in the seventies, (early seventies). my wife and i stayed there in mid july 2011. from the moment we arrived we were greated with the strong smell of damp and decay throughout the hotel. the double room we were shown to was no better with, old brown wall paper on the walls AND doors, the whole feel of the place was dirty and damp and the bathroom was in the same state. the lights in the room were not working properly (1 bulb working out of 5 on the ceiling cluster) the tv was not working. the list goes on. we were to stay for four nights as it was late when we arrived we stayed the one night and left without breakfast.
in my opinion the owner should call it a day until this place is of a far better standard .

“Dreadful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2011

We found the overall first impression of the hotel fairly disappointing, with a serious amount of rotting in the wood work and in genral disrepair. When we were shown to our room, we found it to be acceptable upon first impression, but the bath needed to rinsed out before we could use it as it was covered in hair.....nice!.
The mattress was uncomfortable so we had a pretty awful nights sleep.
When we went for a drink at the bar, it was being used as a place to store a load of old rubbish, so we decided to have the drinks in our room.
But the 'Pire du resistance' had to be the breakfast, which although served in a room with serious damp and wallpaper peeling off the walls, was to start with perfectly fine, until the arrival of the toast which turned out to be MOULDY, which I could not believe. THAT is utterly unacceptable for any establismant whatever the rating.
And upon leaving the attitude over the incident was 'laughed off' and he became very defensive, and he took no responcability.
ZERO VALUE FOR MONEY!!!

“How is this hotel still in business??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

The car park had a number of cars which were not road worthy and looked as though they were from a salvage garage. The bay window to the dining room had a hole large enough for a fist to go through and this was 'repaired' with a plastic bag......from the outside!!
The whole hotel was dirty and simply looked as though it had not changed its decor since the late 70's. The bedroom had a carpet one stuck to and a bathroom we felt dirtier coming out of! The ceiling had previously been troubled by water damage but this had not been repaired so a large crack was running along the corner of the room.
How this place is in business never mind charging £78 per night for a twin I will never know! DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. The inspectors would have a field day.

“Needs a visit from the Hotel Inspector!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

Had a over night stay at the Falcon. We were with 3 friends all of whom had separate rooms, we had a double. The hotel looked as if it had seen better days, peeling wallpaper, damp patches and in need of a lot of TLC. The rooms were relatively clean but the grouting in all of our 4 bathrooms were dirty and in parts black. The fittings in our room were the epitomy of 1970's bad taste- sun gold!
We waited 40 minutes for our cooked breakfast to arrive and shared one pot of tea (meant for 2) amongst the 5 of us. There were eventually just 9 people at breakfast so the kitchen was not exactly under pressure. The breakfast itself although adequate was nothing really special. Would we stay here again - no!

“Don't stay at the Falcon”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

This was a terrible hotel. My friends and I were down for a party, and between us booked four rooms. The double room was not bad, but the rest were not very nice. They were pretty shabby, not that clean, and with very out dated bathrooms. My room had a fire surround that was just propped up against the wall! The wallpaper was peeling in places from damp, and to top it all there was no hot water for our showers before we went out. The whole place was sadly neglected, and I do not think had been decorated in years. The breakfasts were OK however, and the landlord and his helper did their best to accommodate our requests, although two of our party had to wait over 30 minutes for their breakfast! There were electric heaters in the dining room that should have been condemned years ago. The bar and TV lounge reeked of damp, and the windows were rotten. All in all, very poor value for money.
