Couple of pointers about this place. It feels different to your average hotel - as you might imagine being an ex-officers mess it's a bit 'institutional' - so be prepared for that. I actually quite liked the rich history surrounding the hotel - there's a memorial outside and the corridors are lined with pictures of vintage aircraft.
It's extremely convenient for Teeside airport (It's also the only hotel on site) but there is very little else within walking distance if you feel the need to kill some time. I did go for a stroll and the path I chose took me onto some common ground where locals were walking dogs playing football etc..
About the rooms. Be aware there are no lifts and expect multiple fire doors to get through. The rooms have no air conditioning. No flat screen TV (I know I'm expecting to be spoilt these days) and little ironing boards are built onto the walls. My 'double bed' was actually two pushed together. When will hotels ever learn? Two singles do not equal one double. Sheets were clean and it was comfy enough so long as I only used one side. On the plus side there is very little noise (it's set well back from the main road and the airport is actually very sleepy with very few movements). There is no fitness centre / swimming pool / gym. The desk staff looked at us as though we were crazy when we asked. The bar was very quiet, and the food varied from excellent to average for the few days I stayed here (we generally ate in the bar rather than the restaurant).
