We stayed here as a halfway stop to a wedding in Norwich, choosing it in preference to the Premier Inn style of blandness. This is always something of a gamble but it certainly paid off this time.

We arrived fairly late, due to roadworks, and received a concerned phone call enroute, to ensure that we were ok.

The room was an older style, but very pleasant, although my wife did find the bed to hard for her. I personally liked the firmness and slept well.

Breakfast was very pleasant, with newspapers provided and a choice of food.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a stopover, and I imagine would also suit those who wished to stay for longer. Thank you.

We used this Pub as a stageing point for dropping one of our sons off at the nearby University of Hertfordshire. We all had an excellent meal in the Benick's restaurant. The boys really enjoyed the famous pies, while we ate from the main menu. Everybody gave full marks for their meals!
I then took the boys back to Uni, (eldest lad staying overnight with his brother) and returned to the pub and having finished driving for the night, settled down in front of the real fire and enjoyed several pints of well kept real ale!
The double room was of a good size and had everything that we wanted in it. It was very comfortable and well worth the price.
Breakfast next morning was also excellent value.
We will certainly be returning to this friendly, comfortable pub, both to eat and to stay overnight again.

Just wanted to let anyone who may stay at this Inn know, that as well as a comfy room in glorious Hertfordshire, if they stay on a Wednesday or Saturday evening dinner will be "Pie''. £5 for a delicious homemade pie portion - 6 choices, with mash/roast or chips and nicely cooked vegetables ..... it gets busy, so you need to book. Do not miss the desserts - Strawberry Shortcake - feather light and well presented (yum) and a rich Chocolate Pud plus Banoffimess and Cheesecake . This is British food at its best at a Credit Crunch price. Nice ale too and a good house red.

Almost forgot to mention the friendly staff - this pub deserves to succeed ! ! !

The stay with you was excellent. A nice and spacious room, a lovely breakfast and a splendid meal.
Although there is a busy road one does not hear any sound because of the double-glazed windows.
It was also nice to talk to you and the locals. Thanks for the help.
