excellent evenings entertainment. High quality rooms. All a very good experience.
We stayed here as we were attending a Xmas work do in the Suffolk Suite, which i would like to say was fabulous! The Food, entertainment, setting and staff were great!
On arrival the young female receptionist was not very welcoming and checked us in without a smile, the room was very spacious, clean and all you needed for a one night stay. Bathroom was clean, slightly dated but useable.
We called room service at 2am after our night out, as it stated there was a light menu available after 12am, after phoning reception we soon realised the light menu consisted of a ham or cheese sandwich.
They phoned back 20 minutes later to say they had no ham but they could offer us turkey or italian salami??
The bill for 3 sandwiches and a bottle of water came to £22! but the sandwiches had no salad, sauce or butter, just standard shop bought thin slice of bread with the filling slapped in the middle. This was bad, i couldnt even eat the cheese sandwich, im sure it was parmasan left over that was used on the risotto at the xmas doo!
I think any longer could have been tiring as the walls were really thin and you could hear people using the bathroom, turning the tele on, plugging things in etc.
Other than this, it was a pleasant stay for one night. Plus as we had booked the xmas party celebration, we got the room for £35. Which it was worth, i wouldnt of been happy paying the usual £65.
I stayed over for one night business related on a pre-booked rate which was very good value.
Positives: very clean rooms, well stocked tea & coffee tray, relatively quiet, LCD tv, bathroom bath & shower gels, lots of artificial lighting, mediochre wifi coverage, warm. Tesco 3 miles in Pinewood interchange A14 junc with A12;
Negatives: a little out dated furniture, pricey average breakfast if not included, you need a car as it's 5+ miles from centre Ipswich, double bed sank in middle, no gym or leisure facilities as per website;
Overall great value for money and the staff are very helpful, warm natured, genuine and the hotel would appear to be undergoing cosmetic improvements but slowly. Don't waste your money at big hotel chains if you can get a good room rate stay here.
My other half booked a room here for us as a surprise for me as I love staying at different hotels and it was for our first anniversary ( special occasion). The experience however did not start off well, as the booking we had (through late rooms) held a bit of a muddle up with whether breakfast was included, which was followed by a rather rude e-mail (by the room service manager) which put a bit of a damper on things. We later also found out that our room was booked in for the wrong night and that the money had already come out of our account!! Luckily we were dealing with a different manager (a lady) and she dealt with the situation very well, and upgraded us to the executive suit. We checked in and got our key card, and then went to the very top floor to room 219. The corridors were quiet dated and reminded of a cheap version of the film the shining, but none the less you don't sleep in the corridors. Our room was very impressive in size but very dated in looks, the bathroom was large, with a separate bath and shower. Unfortunately the room looks nothing like what you see on the website and there was no duvet on the bed, it was just a blanket and second sheet, which was covered up with a hideous orange bed cover with distinct holes. The T.V was about a 19" and was so small in regards to the room that it just looked silly. At first I was not going to mention any bad things in this review as we had paid a very cheap price and had been upgraded but at the end of the day they are providing a service and if we had booked that room on purpose and had paid full asking price I would have not been very happy! There was allot of dust on the tops of the picture frames and along the top of the four poster bed, but other than that the room and bathroom was acceptably clean. We ordered room service that night and the food was amazing, we both had the Chilli and Coriander burger with rustic chips and it was very tasty and well priced. I would recommend this hotel for business stop overs but not as much for a night such as ours. Having a duvet cover and duvet instead of horrible blankets and an orange throw would make the room look much more attractive. I also thin that a new mattress is in order as the middle was raised and on either side (where ppl sleep) it was lumpy and saggy and we never slept particularly well.
