“OK Travelodge near the A12”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

It's a fairly standard Travelodge - nothing wrong with that. Staff were friendly. Rate was cheap. Close to nice places to eat but you have to drive. It can be a bit noisy depending on which part of the hotel you are in but I always take earplugs to any hotel!

“Avoid if you are a light sleeper”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Hotel is clean, convenient location just off the A12, and at £23.50 for the night quite cheap. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean. The Little Chef next door is Ok but their coffee machine wasn't working so only standard coffees available.

I was in room 20 right at the end of the corridor nearest the A12 (very near to hard shoulder it seemed). I could hear the traffic noise through the fire escape door as I approached my room but expected the double glazing to stop any real disturbance. Unfortunately there was an almost continuous noise from the traffic which would keep any light sleeper awake. I had been travelling most of the day so managed to get to sleep sometime after 11pm but was woken at about 06.30 by the build up of noise again from the dual carriageway. i did ask to change room but was told the hotel was full, by a very pleasant receptionist.

Like other people I missed it the first time and had to travel down the A12 and double back before I saw it. If you enter through the BP garage off the A12 that is the best bet.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the opposite end to the dual carriageway

“CHEAP, BASIC, FREE PARKING, FRIENDLY EFFICIENT STAFF”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We stayed here en route to Amsterdam via Harwich port, which is a 30 minute drive away. It was a little difficult to find and not where the TomTom told us it should be!!! I would suggest they get an illuminated sign to help. It's actually right next to the police station (which is where we initially tried to book in.....almost!!!).

The car park is free with about 30 spaces, most of which were free when we arrived.

It's certainly the smallest reception area for a Travelodge I have encountered in my years of traveling, all it really has in it is a vending machine. The receptionist was extremely friendly and very efficient. We had a couple of questions about the surrounding area and she was very helpful in dealing with our enquiries.

The family room (for 3 or 2 with lots of luggage or who like space!!!) cost £19 but I have also seen it available for £12. An absolute bargain whichever case.

The room was typical Travelodge style, basic but extremely clean. If I was going to be picky I could say that a lick of paint wouldn't do it any harm as there were marks on the wall but I didn't stay there to gaze at the walls! Just needed a bed for the night.

We did have some road noise as our room (3) was at the side of the duel carriageway, but it didn't stop us from enjoying a good night sleep on the very comfy bed.

You could eat at the Little Chef next door but I would highly recommend you try 'Aqua Eight' which is an Asian fusion restaurant approximately a 15 minute drive from the hotel. Check out the reviews. My husband and I went and we actually thought it was one of our best ever dining experiences.

Room Tip: Room 3 has road noise from adjacent A road.

This Travelodge has been refurbished and seemed clean, with new sheetboarding over the tiles in the bathroom. The TV was HD. A bit noisy if the window is open but the view out the back was over fields. Good service. Couldn'tfind the elevator,

“At £19 a room you can't go wrong”

Managed to bag a cheap room for stay on way to Harwich.
Right on main road next to Little Chef. Sat Nav wanted to take us to next roundabout and double back but we got there in the end.
Basic but clean as always. No frills but what do you expect for the price.
