“What a dump!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2006

Do not go here! The room number 2 was at the front of the hotel and from midnight until 4am we were unable to sleep due to the yobs turning out from the clubs. Then at 6am the stall holders started to set up the market!!!
The room was very cramped and tatty.
The bathroom was old and needs a complete refit.
Hot water came out of all taps!!!!!!not good to clean your teeth with!
Breakfast was nice but overall the hotel is appalling!!!!!

“The Golden Lion - not for a good night's sleep!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2006

Well, the room was actually OK, nice big bed and clean, this hotel is perfect for a cheap stay over, and ideally situated right in the town centre. It had the usual coffee/tea facilities, TV (which was hoisted so high on the wall it nearly touched the celing), decent shower etc.
However, if you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night, you MUST bring ear plugs, or you'll be listening to the chorus of the town's drunks all night. If that doesn't wake you, then the clean-up vans that are collecting the previous night's bottles off the streets definitely will wake you up, so be prepared.
The cooked breakfast is something to avoid too - unless you enjoy being in the toilet for the rest of the day...

“Loud and Proud”

Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said – To be fair the hotel I thought was quite nice, clean room big bed and to make a bit of a change had a Chinese noodle restaurant instead of a pub which made a nice change from the normal Steak & Chips, The staff were really friendly and polite but that’s about where it ends once its bed time it all goes down hill the noise from the street is terrible, kids ( CHAVS) out on the street till 3am and then when they finally leave u get the dustbin men out at 6am!!!. This is all that let it down for me but sleep matters so I wouldn’t go back to this hotel and wouldn’t recommend it. Nice Hotel Worst possible location….

“Free meal in the restaurant!!!”

Okay. So now I have your attention.. Lucky me, asked to deliver training in Ipswich and I was booked in here. In my colleagues defence, she used a web-search for a hotel...and the rest is history.
I would suggest any other hotel unless you are desperate. Centrally located, but that doesn't mean easy to get to in "one-way" Ipswich. Single pane glass on old sash windows with a busy restaurant downstairs, and a pub on each side of the hotel. All rooms face the market square, which with it's excellent harmonics means you can hear a drunk whisper from 200 metres! On the upside, if you're on a budget (small rooms and single beds) it's 1/3 the price of the better hotels.
To sum up, if you want a noisy, unclean, dilapidated bed & breakfast, this is probably the one for you.
ps. Free parking.
