“what a nightmare!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

What can i say! this hotel, if you could call it that, is not equiped for early/late departures or check ins! We stayed here only last week for the National Hotrod weekend which was taking place in Ipswich! We stayed here because basically, it was all that was left! having emailed the hotel regularly on the week leading up to advise that we would be arriving at the hotel at 8am or thereabouts i thought that they would be expecting us! instead! we arrived at the hotel, granted the door was open! but we were greeted if you could put it that way by someone that didn;t understand an accent! only an irish one at that! trying to tell him that i had been in contact and that it was already okayed for us to leave our bags here proved a challenge for him! eventually he escorted us to our room to deposit out bags but wouldn;t allow us to check in! we tell him that the last race was scheduled for 10pm and that we would be back to the hotel for 11pm! on our arrival back shattered, exhausted, tired the door was bolted shut! we rang the door bell only for it to be answered by a chinese man with NO ENGLISH! we went up to reception, rang the bell, no anwers! instead about 5 minutes later this ordinary guy arrived and handed us a key to our room! NOW! the room! was generally ok! it had a bed! thats all we wanted! we were over the main square and sweet mother of god! the noise!!! right up to 4am! The showers were a nightmare!!!! no power whatsoever in them! We went down for breakfast at 8am! ordered 2 full breakfast as we had a full day of racing ahead of us! but the guy that took our room number and order must ahve bene cooking the breakfast aswell as he said that becuase there were 5 other people down before us it would take 30 mins for our breakfast to arrive! so we waited, and waited and eventually at 9.15 and full hour and a quarter later our breakfast arrived, which consisted of 2 sausages, 1 burnt piece of bacon, about 20 beans and i think it was a pudding! would love to know who come it took 85mins to cook this!!!

We were debating the idea of leaving our bags here but when we went to check out, the same fella that took our order, cooked us breakfast and served it to us also checked us out! now! we had copious amounts of printed confirmation about our booking! and when we went to settle the amount we had on our booking confirmation was NOT the total he had in mind, he tried to convince us that it was our fault and that we hadn;t said it was a room for 2 people! but on the confirmation form it was obvious it was for 2!

We, in the end decided it would be better to take our bags to the track with us as god knows what would have happened to them!

Ghastly experience! never again!!!!!

  • Liked — leaving the hotel with our bags and health!
  • Disliked — the staff!!! no IQ at all!

“Avoid!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2008

Booked a superior room online, but on check in was given a standard (room 6). This room has a significantly sloping floor and would have made for an uncomfortable sleep as the bed had the same slope as the floor and I would have ended up on the floor in the middle of the night!! Was offered another room that looked rather dirty. Staff uninterested in solving problem apart from refunding my room rate. Also not happy with surrendering my car keys whenever my car was in the hotel carpark - apparently for "fire reasons". I booked a room in the nearby Novotel for £10 more - well worth it for the courteous, service focused staff, secure car park with CCTV and clean rooms with level floors.

“Basic hotel , quirky”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2007

Room clean , bed comfortable. breakfast good,
staff polite and friendly. hot water supply spartan, tho electric
shower made up for this. in noisy surroundings but not too bad.
Cheap n Cheerful certainly but not as bad as some.
Would stay again, and the restaurant noodles looked and smelled good, worth it just for the food. Not the best hotel ever but certainly not the worst.

Do not go here! The room number 2 was at the front of the hotel and from midnight until 4am we were unable to sleep due to the yobs turning out from the clubs. Then at 6am the stall holders started to set up the market!!!
The room was very cramped and tatty.
The bathroom was old and needs a complete refit.
Hot water came out of all taps!!!!!!not good to clean your teeth with!
Breakfast was nice but overall the hotel is appalling!!!!!
