“Reasonable - Best Western says it all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

Like many Best Western, the standards vary greatly and depend a lot on local managers/owners. This was better than average due to the pleasant staff. The rooms seem a mixture of new and old building. We booked a top range suite with 4 poster bed and had a room in the old part at the front of the building straight over the road (no frontage). Not much noise but you knew the road was just outside your bedroom. Not my idea of a suite, just a large room with dated paintwork/fittings. The website says "modern" but not our room. However, the bathroom was excellent with a superb power shower. Breakfast was good; freshly cooked with an average selection of cereal or freshly opened tinned grapefruit.

“All-round satisfaction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

This is a great all-round hotel for touring Suffolk and north Essex, minutes away from the A14 but in a quiet village on the fringes of Ipswich. The room was very clean and comfortable, although the decor was a little tired. Parking was never a problem, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Best of all is the food, which was very good for breakfast (all freshly cooked to order) and first-class for dinner, with reasonably priced drinks. A pity that the corridors were unheated in the chilly evenings, but I would have no real complaint with any aspect of our stay.

“A surprising little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

This hotel was a surprising little gem for me. The hotel is situated in a small village just off the A14 and close to Ipswich. The village has a couple of pubs and a few stores. Despite its proximity to the main A14 road, the hotel is quiet and peaceful. I found the service to be excellent and the food too, though I would perhaps have liked one or two more vegetarian options. The hotel bar is quite small but friendly and serves a small variety of bar meals and has tales both outside and in a small conservatory for those finer days!
My room was comfortable and clean, my only complaint might be the lack of bath and shower only. I do usually use a shower so it was no problem for me but sometimes after a long journey I like to relax in the bath.
For anyone travelling to the Ipswich area on business, I'd recommend this hotel as a good place to stay.

“As a base OK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Claydon village itself has little character but as a base for doing the National Trust properties it is a reasonable choice. Room had Aircon so can sleep with window closed -there is a busy road nearby so any noise was shut out. The aircon control has a slide down panel; once you've found that and the two on/off controls it worked well and quietly.
Bedroom comfy enough ( it has a clock!) but bathroom not free of niggles but all very minor eg Dove wall shower soap dispenser awkward for bath use, no towel rail- only a shelf.
Best Western Rewards customers get a free upgrade if available. We were in a room in the newer rear block, and there was no wedding on so was quiet.
Staff always pleasant and helpful. Our experience was spoiled by our evening meal on the first night (Sunday). We were the only diners and we think the chef took the evening off. Definitely not the quality it should have been. However the other meals made up for it- really good dinner Monday and the breakfasts excellent too- crisp toast, runny eggs etc.

“Used Tesco Clubcard Vouchers, would recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

We booked through Tesco and had no problems. Staff friendly and helpful even if they were off duty. Room we had on small side but more than adequate for our needs as it was just a base. Bus stop outside hotel for buses to Ipswich and good access to main roads if have car.
Continental and cooked breakfasts cooked to order which were very nice.
Would revisit this hotel and would recommend to people
