We stayed in room 10 which was the cheapest of the double rooms and to be fair we quickly understood why - even though in heindsight there are better options available locally for £60.
First things first - the car park. It's a great facility to have as you will be paying for parking at most other hotels, but had it not been for the fact I am from the area, I doubt most people will know how to find it as it isn't signposted and it isn't a simple case of just "park round the back". In fact, you gain access by the road next to the Empire hotel right around the corner and then where you can take your 1st right, there is a small, narrow dirt track, where at the end you will get to the hotels car park. To get to the hotel - you just go down the steps, but they lead you into the garden of the "Belle Vue" apartments. Carry on through the garden, down to the main road and then take a left to "The Elms" which is next door.
When we got to the hotel, the front doors were locked - this was at 5pm! We rang the bell and by the 2nd ring, we were greeted by a male and female, who seemed confused to why we were there! They then had to ring presumably the owner on how to proceed and we were then taken off to our room on around the 3rd floor.
The room was TINY, although it was perfectly adequate in terms of facilities and decor - even if it is a little dated - but the cleanliness was bang on.
The bed was a small double, but it was very, very firm and neither my partner or I slept well at all - the lock on the door didn't seem to work from the inside too, which perhaps didn't help put my partner at ease for her sleep!
The shower in the morning didn't do much to refresh us as the water literally trickled out and you couldn't move the shower head because the holder was selloptaped together.
At breakfast, after ringing the bell, presumably it was the owner who greeted us and she was very friendly and helpful. Very nice.
Breakfast was cooked to order for us and it too was perfectly nice.
All in all, although my review probably wouldn't reflect it, the hotel is quite nice. Lovely building set in quaint gardens, nice breakfast room, lounge/reception area and the rooms which were vacant - the doors were all propped open and they all seemed pretty roomy, with the view from the beach facing rooms - stunning!
Just a shame one of these nice rooms was directly opposite our tiny room, overlooking a roof!
In summary, I would consider staying there again, but definately not in room 10... and I would book earlier so that I felt more welcome on arrival...
