“Nice Hotel but too expensive”

My husband and myself stayed for two nights for a break. The hotel was very nice, althought our room was a bit small. The bed was comfortable and very clean. The only downside was we could not open the window to get some air. Also on checking in, the lady who showed us to our room said that the sink took a long time to empty which it did, it was never repaired and we did not see that lady again. As we were only staying two nights we put up with it.
I had booked and paid the deposit on the internet and was surprised to see at the hotel that the rest of the money had to be paid in cash. This meant a trip to the bank to draw out the money which I had not expected as we were under the impression we could use our credit card. Also the phone to the hotel does not seem to be working, which combined with the credit card not working seemed a bit strange.
All in all we thought the hotel was reasonable, though over priced. We were grateful that there was a lift and the breakfast was OK. We paid £146.30 for two nights which I thought was expensive. I would rather had been able to book direct.

“As Always - Fantastic”

Had an overnight stay at the Elms as usual - fantastic!
Colin and Lorraine really make you feel at home. Lovely room as usual very clean and comfortable.
The breakfast again was out standing - they sure know how to feed you for a long day sightseeing in Snowdonia!!!!
We have stayed here many times and have never been disappointed - we'll be back soon

“Faulty towers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

We stayed in the executive suite. It is a bedroom with lounge, your own lockable doored corridor, and a w.c and separate jacuzzi bathroom.
On first arrival, the welcome was not exactly very welcoming. He seemed to not be expecting us and just handed us the keys with no questions, suggestions, or credit cards taken. Asked if it was easier to unload from out front or the car park at the rear, he told us the car park. It wasn't by far! Especially with a car full of my son's and Wife's things.
Our first night went like this: Oh we can't wait to bath our son in the jacuzzi bath and then relax ourselves when he is in bed. We couldn't as it did not work. The hot dribbled out. We thought ah well we'll try the sink.We could'nt As it did not work,it did not seal and so did not hold water. We blocked it with toilet roll and just got by.We thought we'd have a nice relaxing shower. We couldn't as It did not work due to jumping between the extreme temperatures. The cot we requested by email was not present, but we brought our own anyway .We got our son to bed and thought we'd have a nice glass of wine.We couldn't, as there was not a single glass. Just a tea cup. We'll watch the state of the art 30 inch tv we thought. We couldn't as there was no tv remote. We'll get cosy with the fire on.Yet again no,the filament heating bars did not come on.A beer from the bar ( ground floor)will make me feel better. Not that night it wouldn't as the pump didn't work.
The corridor on which the suite is located can be locked. But as it's en route to the fire exit , it can be opened from the outside by a turning lever. So anyone would be able to enter your room and the key is a waste of time.
Breakfast was very efficient and quick .Cereals were out, as was the orange juice and mini fruit bowls and toast was brought immediately. But there were no menus and we were just asked what we would like.
The pros for the elms are it's separate rooms, a comfy bed, new bathroom suite, amazing view of the entire promenade. The cons being listed above. Also for £110 there seemed to be a lot of other hotels up and down the strip with their best rooms far cheaper than that.
When booking we paid a deposit of £110. On check out we refused to pay any more.So it worked out at£55 a night. With all considered that was fair. Apart from the new bathroom suite, the entire hotel needs modernising. as it's old and dated . But if they did it would be quality.

Also after the original check in the staff were very friendly.

“Nice enough!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

We stayed in room 10 which was the cheapest of the double rooms and to be fair we quickly understood why - even though in heindsight there are better options available locally for £60.

First things first - the car park. It's a great facility to have as you will be paying for parking at most other hotels, but had it not been for the fact I am from the area, I doubt most people will know how to find it as it isn't signposted and it isn't a simple case of just "park round the back". In fact, you gain access by the road next to the Empire hotel right around the corner and then where you can take your 1st right, there is a small, narrow dirt track, where at the end you will get to the hotels car park. To get to the hotel - you just go down the steps, but they lead you into the garden of the "Belle Vue" apartments. Carry on through the garden, down to the main road and then take a left to "The Elms" which is next door.

When we got to the hotel, the front doors were locked - this was at 5pm! We rang the bell and by the 2nd ring, we were greeted by a male and female, who seemed confused to why we were there! They then had to ring presumably the owner on how to proceed and we were then taken off to our room on around the 3rd floor.

The room was TINY, although it was perfectly adequate in terms of facilities and decor - even if it is a little dated - but the cleanliness was bang on.

The bed was a small double, but it was very, very firm and neither my partner or I slept well at all - the lock on the door didn't seem to work from the inside too, which perhaps didn't help put my partner at ease for her sleep!

The shower in the morning didn't do much to refresh us as the water literally trickled out and you couldn't move the shower head because the holder was selloptaped together.

At breakfast, after ringing the bell, presumably it was the owner who greeted us and she was very friendly and helpful. Very nice.

Breakfast was cooked to order for us and it too was perfectly nice.

All in all, although my review probably wouldn't reflect it, the hotel is quite nice. Lovely building set in quaint gardens, nice breakfast room, lounge/reception area and the rooms which were vacant - the doors were all propped open and they all seemed pretty roomy, with the view from the beach facing rooms - stunning!

Just a shame one of these nice rooms was directly opposite our tiny room, overlooking a roof!

In summary, I would consider staying there again, but definately not in room 10... and I would book earlier so that I felt more welcome on arrival...

“Not what i expected but ok”

I had a lovely holiday with my partner in llandudno and we had chosen to stay at the Elms. The hotel owners were helpful and kind and the pets adorable. Our only problem was the overall cleanliness of the room as the tea and coffee tray became kind of sticky towards the middle of the week i don't think it was being cleaned well, our towels in bathroom seemed damp from after first use i was wondering if they were actually being changed at all i feel we had same towels all week. And i feel although elegantly furnished the rooms and other parts of the hotel could use a new paint and carpets.

On the other hand the breakfast was lovely, view from room was lovely and the people were kind and friendly and the bed was very comfortable. I just with the rooms cleanliness was a bigger priority for this hotel.
