“Anything done to stop guests staying”

A very disapointing introduction to North Wales. a poorly presented hotel which was run with the atitude of "keep guests out". Tap water at the table was not allowed, and £1.50 for a quarter pint on soda water (not bottled) was too excesive for me. The over priced bar had prices that changed depending on who was serving - more expensive if the Manageress served the drinks. Most of our group ventured out to other hotels in the evenings where the welcome was warm and the prices a third to half of the Baytree's. A light bulb with more than 40 watts would have been a delight, but there again TVP (vegetarian option)with no vegetables is best hidden. it was indeed Bleak house and I feel sorry for the staff who looked embarased at having to inforce the managements rules.

“worst hotel I have ever stayed in.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2006

This hotel has to be the worst I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. Our room had a shabby carpet which emitted an unpleasant smell, broken drawers which were held up with a chair, a shower which you had to run around in to get wet (thats if you could get any hot water out of it), an extractor fan which sounded like a band saw starting up (great if you had to get up in the middle of the night to use the loo!) and barely adequate tea making facilities. There was no phone in the room or the hotel lobby, no water on the table with dinner unless we paid, the food was tasteless and the menu was extremely limited. The drinks were very expensive and despite the fact that there were few other guests in the hotel we had to sit five people on a table for four in case any new guests arrived (not if they had any sense!) .As for customer service, if it weren't for the nice waitress/chambermaid/barmaid (a very busy girl!) there wouldn't have been any. The owner was rude and did not seem to have a sense of humour, in fact I don't think she really wanted us there at all!. Not a good ambassador for LLandudno I think!

“Dont waste your money here”

I, along with thirty or so other ladies had the misfortune in staying at this hotel last weekend. (which we nick named "Bleak House").
Although we did not let it spoil our break, I did feel the need to report some safety aspects to the Conwy County Borough Council, who in turn are requesting the Fire Safety Officer and Trading Standards Department to get involved. Need I say more.
Other problems eg: The landlady will not provide Tap water with your meal. She said "it is not negotiable, you have to buy a bottle ". Heating was hit and miss, depending on which room you were located. Over priced drinks at the bar (we went to a better class hotel and paid just over half the price for the same amount of drinks. Complicated locking on front door, although if it was explained to us in a less confusing way we would not have waited 30 mins outside. The two waitresses were nice, but the propriotor was extremely rude and she did'nt seem to be bothered by our complaints. I did, however inform her of my intentions on this forum.

“Laughing in Llandudno”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2006

We had to laugh or we would have cried!! Having pre-booked and paid for a 6 night holiday, we had to make the best of things.
Our gloomy room had a circa 1960's bed and mattress, wardrobes with missing doors and no less than 7 clashing patterns. The tea making facilities were very stingy. Toiletries provided consisted of two very tiny bars of cheap soap. A resident plumber would also have been useful for all the plumbing disasters suffered during our stay by fellow guests eg. no toilet for 2 days, no hot water, leaks and lack of all water to room.
However, far worse, was the uninspiring food, lack of choice of menu all served with a grimace! Tap water for the table was 50p a glass even if you were choking!
Overall you could put up with the room if the owners had been friendly and approachable which they were not. Service was obviously something unheard of.
Thank goodness for the fun and laughter we managed to share with fellow holidaymakers. If we hadn't had good company it would have been far worse.

“Where not to have lunch in Llandudno”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2006

people found this review helpful

Penny-pinching hotel which takes advantage of transient trade by selling laughably poor food at inflated prices.

Order a 'cup of tea' and you get a cup of hot water. In the saucer is a tea bag which you have to put in yourself.

The 'Ploughman's Lunch' consisted of HALF a pre-buttered bread roll, a lump of cheese and a tiny salad garnish (which contained the woody end of an onion).

Obviously not worried about repeat business or developing a reputation.
