“A TRULY MAGNIFICENT PLACE TO STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Wow, what a truly incredible, fantastic place this is to stay at. In fact, I thought I'd walked into a palace, because this Hotel is full of genuine, expensive antiques, oil paintings, and soft-furnishings to die for! The Hotel interior was truly wonderful, and extremely opulant - I really don't know how they do it for the price!

Another huge bonus was the exclusive Hotel car park, which is worth a million dollars in a place like Eastbourne these days.

The location also was second-to-none (what other hotel in Eastbourne can offer you sea views, a car park, AND a central Theatreland location!!!

The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was truly delicious (well done to the Chef!). In fact, I and my family enjoyed our stay so much we've booked again for later in the year, and I have recommended them to friends.

So congratulations Courtlands on managing such high-standard accommodation at such competitive prices. I felt like a Princess throughout my stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and no-one who worked there was too busy to chat or help. My room had huge, thick, top-quality curtains (they must have been a good 9ft long) and this, coupled with the sea view and great weather, all contributed to make my stay happy and restful.

The additional facilities, such as a bar, various lounges and the television room, were just icing on an already splendid cake.

So thank you very much, Courtlands, for a wonderful time. Please keep up the good work, and hopefully I'll be visiting you again very soon,

Chas Reynolds

“Worst Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I stay in a lot of hotels as I travel with my work. When I reported my experience to my organisation who were paying for the accommdation they contacted the booking company who contacted the hotel who gave a reponse which was full of lies and untruths. But this was not at all suprising as the two owners a Scottish man and Asian lady were also very rude throughout my two day stay, so it was understandable when his replies contained lies and untruths with not an ounce of Customers Services. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT STAY.

“Lost in the 1980 's - steer well clear and book somewhere else!!!”

Stayed at the Cortlands Hotel for 2 nights in early October as I was at a conference at the Devonshire Centre over the road so for location it was tip top and not even 45 seconds away.

The Scottish manager and Asian lady co-owner were freindly enough however the Courtlands is dated, grubby and dingy and it could do with a revamp and update to bring it up to date/ into the 21st Century . On my first night I went to take a shower before going out and the fitting holding the showerhead came off the wall with the shower head catching me on the head. I asked to be moved to another room as I wasnt happy which the scottish manager did immediately but when I went to reception before going out for the evening the Asian lady joked that the shower head should have "knocked some sense into me!" Insulting or what!

We got a deal as there were 11 of us which included our evening meal(dinner) bed and breakfast. Breakfast was in my opinion average with a greasy warm small full english but a plentiful supply of hot toast however the evening meal was 4 courses and reasonably presented with a choice of 3 entrees, starters, mains and desserts. The decor in the restaurant was dated around the 1980's and the piped music was the epitomy of cheese but overall i would say the food was of an acceptable standard.

The rooms were adequate with tea and coffee making facilities and a TV. The bathroom unfortunately was a little grubby with an extractor fan that was still going 15 minutes after the light was switched off . I slept soundly but that may have had something to do with the long days at conference and the alcohol consumed in the evenings.

Until the Courtlands in brought up to date and the staff have undergone some customer care courses I would spend a bit more money and book somewhere else if you want an acceptable level of cleanliness and comfort.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else!!!

“cheated badly on price and very rude staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

I went to this hotel after finding an ad on spareroom .com.This asian lady was over freindly and happy to help initially and I was on weeks notice stay. But after 2 -3 days she suddenly raised the price from 90pwk to 120pwks and when i objected she asked me to leave staraight away. After two days when decided to move somewhere else she asked me to pay full month.I was really in tears .she took advantage of my situation and cheated me.

I will advise dont go on the fisrt smile they give you they will cheat you whenever they get chance.worst place to visit. The scottish man is very rude and the lady herself is like keeping an eye who she can cheat and take money. Not a professional place at all.wosrt i have stayed.
