“Great value for money”

We were a group of 29 people staying at the hotel for the Turkey/Tinsel weekend of 5/6 December 2009.
From the outset, when I started making enquiries about this large booking, the hotel staff where very helpful. The hotel is located just off the sea front close to the pier. The rooms were good and the Turkey/Tinsel meal was excellent.Later we went downstairs for the entertainment and dancing which were both excellent. We finished the next morning with a very nice english breakfast .

“A great weekend at Haddon Hall.”

The welcome at the Hotel was very good,When we first arrived in our room the heating wasn't working but this was very quickly dealt with by a member of the staff, The room wasn't large but was clean and fit for purpose. The weekend was a "Turkey & Tinsel weekend and the staff worked very hard at changing the trimmings each day , The food and service were first class. I had a great time as did most of the other people in our party.

“Well worth a visit - clean, comfortable, very relaxing”

Just returned from a weekend coach trip staying at the Haddon Hall Hotel. On arrival we were given a very warm welcome and a cup of tea. The hotel was very clean and looked as if it had recently been decorated. All rooms were very warm, in fact our bedroom was a little too warm we turned the radiator down and opened the window to make it comfortable for sleeping. The food served for breakfast and evening meal was excellent. It was always piping hot, there was a varied choice and plentiful portions and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The only negative comment I would make is that the entertainment could have been better and the bar closed shortly after 11pm. All in all I would say this hotel provides excellent value for money and I would definitely stay here again when I return to Eastbourne.

“Nice staff, reasonable food. Doesn't pretend to be something it isn't!”

Have recently returned from a second stay at the Haddon Hall hotel. Our last stay was in 2005 and nothing has changed. The bedrooms are a bit "tired" and could do with updating. They are clean but a bit dusty in some places. The bathroom was more "tired" but again clean and functional. Our main criticism is about the bed which was just too hard and the sheets which did not fit the bed. No duvets are provided, just one blanket and a bed cover. To be fair there are extra blankets available. The hospitality tray is also a little on the "mean" side.

The main public rooms are adequate and the lounge is fairly spacious. The dining room is fairly cramped for the number of guests but this isn't too much of a problem. The lift is rickety and can only take 3 people, the stairs and corridors are narrow but I guess this is down to the age of the building.

The menu is quite good for the type of hotel and the food is well cooked and tasty. However, some of the desserts are "interesting" and reminded me of school dinners eg: syllabub looked like Angel Delight and the Sherry trifle hadn't seen much cream or sponge never mind sherry!! Overall though the food was probably above average for the type of hotel. The service is very fast and mostly very pleasant.

Evening entertainment is fairly standard sea side hotel style but we enjoyed the dancing. Bar prices are fairly high. The smoking ban has improved the entertainment area (in the basement) dramatically.

All the staff are pleasant and courteous and I would return for a similar (coach) holiday but probably not for a private trip.

  • Liked — Location is superb and convenient
  • Disliked — Tired bedroom and bar prices
