“Friendly and comfortable, improved showers and TV's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

On arrival the greeting was as warm as before with a nice cup of tea. Strange enough we actually has the same room as last time and were impressed to see they have been busy in the last year or so with Improvements. The old tin shower cubical was gone and a fresh modern unit in its place, also the TV's have been changed and now have an flat screen tv's with free view. Also the beds had been replaced with new matrices (according to the owners).

We came back to Ivydene after a good first stay and because it is well situated for getting into the town, down to the pier and also because there is unrestricted on street parking immediately outside the door (a big plus in Eastbourne). Would definitely use again on our next trip.

“It was an average quality stay & surprised why 4 stars were given by AA”

We stayed in the hotel for four nights. I will give staff friendliness 6/10 points. The location is just under 10 minutes walk from the beech, about 15 minutes from the shopping centre with no parking facilities (except for on the road parking). For the location I will give 7/10 points. The room was small with small TV without any Sky or free view channels. There was a shower unit but no bath tub. I will give 3/10 points for the room. The quality of the breakfast was below average and I will give 2/10 points. Burnt toasts on our breakfast table were a regular feature during our stay. The overall point will be under 5 out of 10 points. I am surprised why this place was given 4 stars by AA? (I had to edit my previous comment after receiving a phone call regarding the review from the owners of Ivydene B & B/Inn)

“Perfect for a quick escape to the seaside!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Needing an escape from the city for a weekend, friends recommended Ivydene in Eastbourne. I found it to be a perfectly situated and thoroughly pleasant place to stay. The owners were so friendly and helpful, the food delicious and well presented in the light and well kept dining room. My room was clean and comfy, excellent to retire to after exploring the south coast. The bar/sitting room was also a pleasant space to relax and chat with other visitors.

“Charming and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

Have now stayed at Ivydene on 2 occassions and will be returning again for a weekend stay next month. The most recent trip was with my wife and our 2 young sons in a family room with adequate space for the 4 of us. The hotel is only a short stroll away from the sea front, which is ideal for the children. We were able to enjoy a drink and a chat in the small bar area in the evening and the breakfast in the morning was very good. The owners provide a warm and friendly service so it's a thumbs up all round really.

“Lovely friendly guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

We've stayed here a few times and are puzzled by some of the other comments. This is not a five star luxury hotel, but a small and very friendly guesthouse, which charges a very reasonable rate.

Rosalind and Colin welcome all their guests personally and couldn't do more to make sure you are happy and comfortable. The rooms are cosy and we always get a good night's sleep.

The location is one street back from the seafront and doesn't have sea views - but then you pay a huge premium for those at the big hotels.
