“Constructive comments”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

My wife & arrived and was greeted by a very helpful young Asian man. It made us feel very welcome. Our room 105 was large & the king size bed comfortable but my wife felt the pillows were a bit flat. For the price we paid and reviews here I expected it to be a bit more special. No central heating just a portable heater which made the room very dry overnight, so we took it off second night. The bed side light was inadequate for reading & the switch not very accessiable. The curtains on the main window was see through so all night the room had light (i prefer sleeping in the dark!) No net curtain either so you need to be dressed in clothes at all times. The floor was a bit squeaky and my wife keep reminding me to walk gentlly but we weree distrubed from the the noise in the room abov us as their floor was very squeaky. The bathroom as far I can see had no ventilation and wonder if this comply with H&S regulations? Two nice chairs plus a table chair, good amount linen & toiletries plus tea making facilities. Two basic bedside tables and wardrobe. The ceiling lights not eco friendly and perhaps they would save money with something more better. No full length dressing mirror. Breakfast great & staff very helpful.

Thank you very much for your constructive comments and you make some very valid points which I shall certainly try and address. The hotel does not have central heating and mostly does not need it. We have temporarily replaced the inefficient storage heaters with portable heaters but are looking at other heating in the rooms for the few months when the hotel needs it.

Regarding the curtains, we have black-out curtains in most and have been experimenting with black-out blinds but this proved something of a disaster....the only one still surviving is in the bathroom in room 105. Net curtains have been mentioned in a few of these reviews but equal numbers of guests have commented that they prefer not to have them ... most of our rooms are not overlooked.

I am having to live with the complaints about the squeaky floors. This is a grade 2 listed building and squeaky floor boards come as part of that package. We have experimented in a number of rooms with laminate flooring and real wood flooring but the squeaks will not go away even when we screw (not nail) the floorboards down.

Regarding the ceiling lights not being eco friendly, I have to agree. In fact we introduced eco friendly lighting in all our bedrooms and were inundated with complaints that the rooms were dark or the lights took too long to brighten up. In most rooms we use halogen lighting on the ceiling and eco friendly lighting for bedside lighting

I have to admit that we do desperately try to be eco friendly but you might be interested to read the hotel blog about our disastrous attempt to introduce eco friendly toilets into our rooms .... and I now learn that our (eco friendly) showers may well be using as much water as the baths which we have been trying to replace!!!.

Finally, thank you for your comments about our staff and I am glad that you found them very helpful. We also feel that we have the breakfasts sorted and some nice toiletries in the bedrooms along with tea/coffee making facilities....not to mention the flat screen TVs (cannot wait for Eastbourne to get digital TV as we don’t even have Channel 5 yet) and the DVDs complete with our own DVD library

PS I can assure you that we are fully compliant with H&S regulations....and fire and water and waste and insurance.... and every other blessed regulation that the government throws at us.

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Roshan is a star with a very warm welcome-works hard in all his various roles-of which there seem to be many ? We booked through LateRooms for an unexpected visit down to view some properties and were happy with Sayers Room 307 -a bright apple green confection of a very spacious room-the only changes we would make would be to provide bedside rugs either side of the kingsize bed as in sub zero Feb the laminate floor is a bit cold underfoot-and we would have liked a lamp on the desk/dressing table area-apart from that everything was fine.
Thanks to Roshan again

Thank you for the review and the kind comments about our manager. I agree with everything you say about him .... but I am probably biased. Your comments about the bedside rugs are well made and if I can find some to match the decor then I will certainly take your advice. Alternatively we should consider giving everyone a pair of carpet slippers? Regarding the desk light, I must admit that I thought there was one ...I shall have to get Roshan to go and sort it out!!!!

“Fine for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Absolutely fine for one night stay-nothing wrong but some easy improvements would lift it.
Very helpful young man in charge which was good to see.
Got a good rate on Late Rooms but would have been vastly disappointed at rack rate

Thank you for your review and you will be pleased that we are already busy working on improvements. Indeed maintenance and housekeeping have a long list of work to be done before the next season.

This month, we have completely repainted two of our rooms and carried out remedial work in lots of the others including replaced carpets in two of our bedrooms as iron marks and wine spills don’t look that nice on bedroom carpets.

We have also boxed in the unsightly pipe near the lift and repaired the water damage to the ceiling. We have opened a new toilet on the mezzanine level and sorted out the leaking pipe in the attic. We have also re-sited the bathroom light switches in the single rooms.

We are pleased to hear that you got a good rate and we try to ensure that this is always the case. Our rack rate is competitive in relation to our competitors and particularly good value for single and family rooms.

“Enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Room 108 - 1 night.
Location is good, just off the main seafront but back by a half block, so gives some quiet.
Easy to walk to most central places in Eastbourne.

The room was large, very tall ceilings and a big bathroom. Very squeaky floorboards, which we knew about.
Bath was big and nice to relax in.
Tea and coffee facilities in the room.

Breakfast was well cooked, all items of a nice quality and an enjoyable meal.

Thank you for your kind review and we were glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Room 108 is one of my favourites although we have got to sort out the floorboards. We have plans to take up the carpet and replace with wooden floors which have done the trick in a number of the other rooms. We promise that we will keep you informed via our blog or else on our Facebook page.

“5 Star - All the way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

An excellent 2 night stay over New Year. The room was very spacious, clean and with great facilities & a comfy bed.
We enjoyed a freshly cooked to order English breakfast from locally sourced ingredients. A wide range of cereals, fruit and yogurts were also available.
All the staff were very friendly and attentive.
An impressive stay - would highly recommend for excellent value for money and facilities - I will definitely stay at the Da Vinci hotel again. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. Caroline, Tim, Rachel & James
