“Special place for a special occasion”

We celebrated my husband's birthday here in late January. The hotel is well located close to the centre of Alesund, on the waterfront. This part of Alesund is very pretty. The building's conversion to hotel is very tasteful, retaining lots of original features and with high quality fittings. Our junior suite with water view was lovely, with plenty of room (although we did not find the chairs very comfortable when sitting for any length of time). We found all the staff charming - they all remembered it was my husband's birthday and greeted him. Breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the water was very good quality with plenty of choice. We ate dinner in the (full) restaurant one evening, and this was also very good. The small bar was buzzy and obviously frequented by locals. Overall, this was a perfect base for our trip. A tip for getting back to the airport - we checked at reception about the timing of the bus back to the airport, and for NKr 20 extra, they booked us a shuttle bus direct from the hotel. If I recall, this made the trip NKr 115 pp, compared with the public bus at NKr 95 pp. We were the only two on the bus, so it was no different than booking a taxi which would have cost significantly more.

Room Tip: Not all rooms overlook the water - be sure to check if this is important for you.

Really nice looking rooms. An interesting mix between contempoary and modern with the old Jugend style this city is so famous for. Restaurant was excellent as well. Very central.

“Marvellous Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

What a wonderful place…..My wife and I had a weekend in the hotel, arrived Friday departed Sunday, we booked a suite that overlooked the harbor/mooring area for the cruiser boats in Aalesund a must if you are staying there.
The hotel is a genuine 5 minute walk from the bus station where the airport coach drops off and also 5 minutes from the town centre, its location is perfect right on the waterfront with other hotels and restaurants on the same street.
On arrival sliding doors open and you are met by the feel of warm air and smell of a real fire, the staff on reception and throughout the hotel are polite, helpful, welcoming, available and among some of the best I have dealt with, nothing was a problem. One of the pleasing facts is that the staff are always there but at no time is it, or are you swamped with, cleaners, maids, thumping, banging, vacuuming, or worse banging on your door at silly o’clock shouting room service, I don’t know how they do it but the mix is perfect and just so professional.
Our room was lovely, a suite with a large double bed and hidden single bed if required, 2 windows gave plenty of light and we looked right over the town and arena area, the room was beautiful (402) and bed as comfy as can be, decor is kept simple but smart with exposed wooden beams on wall and ceiling giving a mix of old and new. The bathroom/shower room was smart, spotless, warm and modern, the shower and bathroom/toilet were in one area but separated with a glass partition, water was always hot and shower very powerful, a big plus for me, our bath was ……well I’m not sure if its art deco or what, it wasn’t conventional, let’s say that it was fun and it matched the surroundings. It comes with a well stocked and well priced mini bar, coffee and tea and snacks.
One thing that was very noticeable was the level of cleanliness; the entire hotel was immaculate, pristine, and faultless to the smallest detail. The entire hotel has free reliable wi-fi and a good selection of satellite TV channels British and Norwegian, this is enjoyed from a large plasma TV in the room.
Outwith the room, the hotel enjoys a public bar, massive wine selection, comfy lounge in front of an open log fire, the restaurant is a decent size, well lit and very clean, we only enjoyed breakfast there as the restaurant was booked on both nights we were staying, this was unfortunate as it meant we had to leave the comfort and venture out, my advice would be to book a table with your room at the same time, on the plus side a full restaurant pays testimony to what you can expect in food quality, top class I would say.
In summary we loved it, couldn’t fault it, even in cost compared to other hotels in Norway where I have been royally stung for cash it was very very reasonable.
Well done to all and thanks for a most wonderful relaxing weekend from us both

“Nice hotel. Restaurant is eyewateringly expensive”

Stayed here for three nights on a business trip in October. It's a converted warehouse with a lot of character. Rooms are small by North American standards but very comfortable and nicely furnished & equipped. Bathrooms are particularly funky.

Bar was nice, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. It is an expensive place to eat but then Norway is expensive for food and drink all over.

We had an early checkout for a 7.00am flight & were asked whether we wanted breakfast. Expected some rolls and coffee to be left out but was pleasantly surprised when the night manager cooked up a full hot breakfast for us.

Would stay here again without a second thought.

“Great nordic hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

A great hotel in the center of ålesund town with and cozy old time feel to it.

Room was mordern with a glass room toilet bath build in the old room - coffemaker minibar og telly.

Breakfast was okay nothing special.

The open fireplace by the reception and the old house unik ambience makes this a hotel to return too.
