The hotel is about NOK700 a double, which is why we booked it (that, and everything else was super-expensive and / or full).
In a land as expensive as Norway, a hotel like this certainly has its niche to fill, and the online booking process worked well.
My complaint really is that, compared to the pictures on the hotel's own website, the real-life story is somewhat different. The rooms are dirty and the furniture broken - the corridors and lift were dirtier still, as was the bathroom we needed to share.
We also had the misfortune to share the hotel with some local hells angels, who partied through the night at full volume..
If the hotel looked like it pretends to on the website, it would be a great no-frills option in a highly over-priced city, where budget options are lacking.

Sadly, Citybox lets itself down by a lack of basic hygiene and maintenance.

Our room smelled terribly of urine and was sticky to the point that we only took our shoes off right before getting into bed. The windows were left wide open on the cold night when we arrived, so the urine had clearly not gone unnoticed by the cleaning staff.

The area the hotel is in also feels a tad sketchy if you're arriving late at night. It is close to the train station, which is a plus, but it's about a 10-15 minute walk from where the boat docks (with luggage).

If you do stay here, make sure to print the confirmation screen and email you receive. When you check in, you'll need to type everything into the system as it's listed on this confirmation. Also, make sure to read the tips for check-in that one traveler listed below.

Bergen is a really fun town with lots of nightlife - spend a little more money and stay in a nicer place closer to the center.

City box was as it claimed to be a cheap hotel by Norwegian standards and it claimed to be clean & basic which it also was. The automated checking in system was not working so a member of staff was on hand most of the time. But what we were not expecting was the 5th & 3rd floors taken over by young Norwegians holding a rave! The party would have gone on all night if we had not phoned the “KON 700” emergency phone number. The bell to our room was rung at 11.35! I answered the door & asked what the hell was going on the noise was to much the blond drunk Young Norwegian man said “this is city box it is renowned for its parties!! With that a member of staff came and threw them out but they did return after 4 hours but were a lot quieter.When we left in the morning there were so many empty bottles of vodka beer and general mess!! How do the owners let this happen?

I chose this hotel because lonely planet had listed as "no frills" and "clean." Also, it is obviously a much cheaper place to stay while in Norway. Check-in was fine though the machine would not take a master card, credit-card. I had to use my visa debit.

Our room was not clean. Everything was white (which made it worse) but there were massive windows that made for lots of natural light. I definitely wouldn't describe this hotel as hygenic. The provided two handtowel-sized towels and no bath mat. The hallways had about every fifth light lit (literally-meant to take a pic for posting purposes) which made it seem extra seedy.

The location was fine. It is located next to a few museums, though a five minute walk from the any happenings in bergen. Stayed here on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Friday and Sunday were fine, but the coffee shop downstairs apparently had a dance party on Saturday. Music was so loud we could sing a long to it until the AM hours. I will stay somehwere else next time I'm in Bergen.
