Stayed in Citybox twice on different days. Expect the room is worse than described Booking.com. Was all much better at this hotel. Very clean and comfortable rooms with shower and toilet in each. One room was the kitchen and very big. Citybox situated very well in the center of Bergen, near the railway station. All within walking distance. Nearby there are grocery stores. Another very convenient to make registration at the hotel: a machine independent, the code reservation after payment by credit card receive an electronic key to the hotel room. No reception. Since the Norwegian prices are high, choose the most inexpensive hotel in Bergen, was just fine.

This hostel is unbelievably bad! Do not stay here if you want to sleep at night. The previous reviews about parties being held in the building (including constant yelling, screaming and shaking of walls) are true. I think it is unfair to be taking bookings from other unassuming guests & not regulating the incessant noise levels which seem to happen on a regular basis. Citybox should advertise the hostel as a party destination for underage drinkers if this is the case!

We also had troubles when we checked in & had to wait for an after hours staff member to arrive & check us in manually. The internet wasn't working on day one and the fridge/stove setups in the rooms had been turned off for "safety reasons"... I found an earlier review on Tripadvisor from June/July 2010 that also stated this, it seems they haven't had time to fix this or provide guests with a communal fridge for over three months?.

I am not a fussy traveller and have stayed at many hostels before. I understand that some areas are communal and noise levels fluctuate depending on other guests but the lack of professionalism/care shown by Citybox is appalling.

The hotel is about NOK700 a double, which is why we booked it (that, and everything else was super-expensive and / or full).
In a land as expensive as Norway, a hotel like this certainly has its niche to fill, and the online booking process worked well.
My complaint really is that, compared to the pictures on the hotel's own website, the real-life story is somewhat different. The rooms are dirty and the furniture broken - the corridors and lift were dirtier still, as was the bathroom we needed to share.
We also had the misfortune to share the hotel with some local hells angels, who partied through the night at full volume..
If the hotel looked like it pretends to on the website, it would be a great no-frills option in a highly over-priced city, where budget options are lacking.

Sadly, Citybox lets itself down by a lack of basic hygiene and maintenance.

Our room smelled terribly of urine and was sticky to the point that we only took our shoes off right before getting into bed. The windows were left wide open on the cold night when we arrived, so the urine had clearly not gone unnoticed by the cleaning staff.

The area the hotel is in also feels a tad sketchy if you're arriving late at night. It is close to the train station, which is a plus, but it's about a 10-15 minute walk from where the boat docks (with luggage).

If you do stay here, make sure to print the confirmation screen and email you receive. When you check in, you'll need to type everything into the system as it's listed on this confirmation. Also, make sure to read the tips for check-in that one traveler listed below.

Bergen is a really fun town with lots of nightlife - spend a little more money and stay in a nicer place closer to the center.
