Recently returned from a 11 days Norway trip covering Oslo, Bergen, Flam and Tromso. Because we travelled from Oslo to Bergen, then to Flam and back to Bergen, we actually stayed there on 2 seperate nightes at 2 different rooms. Would have book other hotels but the rest were fully booked and only Jacobs Apartments was available.

Room was sparse but sufficient. The kitchen was also adequate for 2 persons. But because of its price, we expected more.

On our second stay there when we returned from Flam, we were given a room on the 3rd floor which was horrible. Its a double story attic type room where the only window is the rooftop window where you have to use a lot of strength to tug it open/close with a line. Also since there are no curtains/blinds to cover the rooftop window, you are always exposed to the light and worst of all, it is visible directly to the bed if someone is looking from the opposite taller building.

Room condition was also quite poor, especially the toilet. Taps were dripping, shower screens were faulty, zero hangers in room.

At 990nok, it is very poor value for money in comparison to the hotels we stayed in Oslo, Flam and Tromso. Only plus point is that it is located near the railway station and there is a Asian grocery store nearby.

After hurriedly making our booking, we read some of the negative reviews from TripAdvisor members, and so we arrived with low expectations. In fact, our experience was positive: the staff were helpful and welcoming, the apartment was clean and comfortable, the associated restaurant was excellent, and the location was ideal for exploring central Bergen. It is true that the kitchen in the apartment lacked all cooking utensils. And there did seem to be long-term residents in other apartments whose style was different from that of the average tourist.

Several of us (3) stayed in the apartment-style room to save some money for a multi-night stay in Bergen. The apartment had a room with 2 single beds, with a couch in front of the tv that pulled out into a bed. The couch bed had a middle support bar underneath the mattress that will result in you booking an appointment with a chiropractor when you return home. The skylight without a curtain also meant that the person sleeping on the couch bed would be easily woken up by the full glare of the morning sun. The apartment had a small stove and fridge, which was why we picked the location, to save money while in Bergen. The cookware was sparse, so meals had to be quite simple, and there were no larger serving plates to make things like a green salad. Unfortunately, there was no counter space or cabinet space in which to place the groceries we purchased, so we had to pile it on the floor. Additionally, despite the room being designed for 2-3 people, there was only one coat hook, and in a locale that made it quite inconvenient to hang 3 wet raincoats (which will happen, as it rains in Bergen all the time). The very small hot water tank meant showers had to be quite short, with some time in between for the tank to refill for the next person's shower. Convenient with the space for 3 people and the fridge and stove, but disappointing nonetheless.

If you're just passing through Bergen, this is a decent location to stay. It is very clean. The staff is also the restaurant/bar staff, they are very friendly and helpful. It is a 5 minute walk to central station and walking distance to many other attractions. Being close to central station is a plus for me because I like to travel by train. The windows are paper thin and with that the cold air makes its presence felt. Also, you can hear people and cars passing by all through out the day and night. Bergen is a very beautiful city, only wish I was there longer. Over all, if you're looking for a cheap and decent location for a short stay, this would be the place. It wasn't bad at all.
