I visited Bergen with my best friend and her sister. My friend and I shared a twin (which was next to the "Balcony" room) and the sister opted for a single (which was on the other side of the hallway--the back side of the building). We represented three types of travelers. I usually stay in guesthouses. My friend does not travel often, but she is open to suggestions. The sister is a luxury-only traveler. From the moment we arrived, Jannicke was there to make our stay wonderful. We were two hours early, but she was able to get us into our rooms right away, before she went back to her meticulous cleaning. The sister was appalled when she realized she had to go down the hall for the bathroom and was horrified that there was no television. My friend and I, on the other hand, were delighted with the two little cozy beds in our room, the great view from our window and the fact that the place had been a pensjonat for nearly a century. We were there only one night and had to leave early in the morning, but Jannicke was awake, preparing our breakfast first thing. And, what a way to start off a dark, rainy morning--the breakfast was fantastic! And the sister? Well, she admitted to us that she had started to "warm up to the place" and in the end, was in love with it quite possibly as much as we were! I recommend Skansen Pensjonat to ANY type of traveler--it won't disappoint.

This is a very attractive guesthouse, run by very welcoming hosts. The location does involve a climb but it has lovely views and is only minutes away from the town centre.

our only disappointment is that the shared ablutions were not well spread throughout the building. we were on the 2nd floor, the nearest toilet was one floor below and the showers were two floors below. (we do feel that a small alteration could greatly improve the situation.)

while the cost is cheaper than most hotels in Bergen, it is still relatively expensive considering the shared faciities.

our main point is that if convenience to the ablutions is important for you, then check at time of booking which floor you are on.

This is a cozy B and B providing a lovely home environment with great service and an excellent breakfast. The operator is even willing to pack a take away breakfast if you must leave early. It is well situated to the center of the city and has lots of information on hand to help you plan your stay. We had the apartment with a separate entry and kitchen facilities. The bathroom was super with lots of hot water. The kitchenette had pots, pans, stove fridge and microwave - everything we needed at a great price too! All in all, it was clean, comfy and I would highly recommend it.

Lovely guesthouse in a central location just above the funicular. Excellent value for money. We stayed in the double room (room 6), it had lovely attic windows and a comfortable bed. Bathrooms are not ensuite but this did not matter to us. Lovely Norwegian breakfast was served in the morning. We stayed in another hotel Bergen on a different night and this was so much better. Would definitely recommend!
