An ideal location if you travel by train. Take right exit from train station, next to luggage lockers, across the street, and there you are. And Bergen downtown is not big, it'll take only a few mins walk to Torgalmenningen.
Hotel dates back to 1928, a time when every hotel in Norway of some standing called themselves Grand. Spacious bar area, recommended for choices of whiskey. A 2cl will cost you 80 NOK. No foreign papers, but January is out-of-season. 2 windows-pc with free internet available in "Skrivestua" (The writing room) on other side of lobby. You just occupy if free, not necessary to ask reception.
My room was about 15 sq meters, wardrobe area about 4. Tiny, very tiny bathroom, free area 2x3 ft. Washstand, toilet and shower. Shower is also not more than 2x3 ft, gives room for two at the same time, if you stand close-close.
Dead flies in the ceiling lighting in wardrobe, I gave management notice of this, the first time i've seen such in a hotel.
When I entered the 150 seat breakfast room at nine the boiled eggs were lukewarm. No egg&bacon. Coffee tasted bad, I switched to instant. Decaf instant only.
All in all, recommended, mostly because of location.
