“Noise and false firealarm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Would have given 4 stars, but due to renovating this hotel, there was a lot of noise, which I was not informed about when booking. Very early in the norning there was false firealarm due to technical issues. However, the room was comfotable. Still, I will not stay here in the renovating period. A piece of advice to the management. Upgrade guests to businessclass rooms at a standard room cost.

“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

Right in town center by the harbour, the restaurant has a great fish menu. Good meeting facilities.

“Good if you are a Bob the Builder Fan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

I have stayed here many times in the past but will not be back again. Noisy building works are being carried out from 8 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock at night. This means the rooms are unusable during this period for anything other than pulling the pillows over your head. Spending all day out on the streets is hardly an option in rainy old Bergen. The Bar is closed, so no solace there, fitness room and the restaurant is closed so you have to go out in the rain to find something to eat. Leaving early to catch a flight and want breakfast? Forget it. Room was fine(ish) No hair dryer. Internet was availbale but only after struggle.

Overall a pity. I am sure everything will be fine when the work is finished but keep away until it is!

“We moved due to the renovations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

My husband and I were supposed to stay here but we had booked it because it had a pool and nice facilities. We were not told that there was a huge crane outside and that they were doing major renovations which meant that all its facilities were closed! When we asked if we could use the other Radissons facilities the man on the desk said that they used to but couldnt anymore. WHAT?!!! You are a 4* hotel with a sister hotel 10 mins walk away!!!!!!!!!!!!! We asked to be moved to the Radisson Blu Norge hotel instead which they kindly did for us. Needless to say, it too was not 4* in our eyes! (See review!)

“Poor management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

My husband, 2 yr old son and I just returned from a two-week holiday in Norway. We stayed at this hotel for two nights prior to joining our Hurtigruten cruise and one night at the end. My parents were also staying at the hotel in similar rooms.

Location – You really could not ask for a better location. Located right in Bryggen and within a few minutes walk to the fish market, Mt Floyen funicular and everything else in Bergen. It’s also the only hotel specifically on the Flybussen aiport shuttle route which is extremely convenient. Despite this, the receptionist gave us a blank stare when we asked for the early morning bus schedule, then told us to go out and ask one of the drivers.

Breakfast - Good quality and lots of selection. For those with mobility challenges, be aware breakfast is served in a room only accessible by a flight of stairs.

Rooms – We were put into newly renovated rooms. Very stylish and the beds were very comfortable. That said, the renovations are shoddy at best, heaters oddly mounted and the wooden shutters do not fit the windows. In our first room the shutter only covered the top half of the window, in our second the shutter covered only the left two–thirds of the window. Frankly if I was the carpenter, I’d be embarrassed. In each case, we had to fasten blankets to the windows to make the room dark enough to sleep. Families with kids should know the windows open right up and don’t have any safety features. The bathrooms are bright and stylish, however my parents were afraid to shower because of the unsafe design of the bathtubs (bottom too high off the floor, too slippery, awkward glass door and sharp countertop corner). Free wi-fi is available but the signal doesn’t reach all rooms.

Construction - We were booked into the Blu by our travel agent and after reading the reviews here, I was worried about the noise. I emailed the hotel manager and received a very impersonal reply and directed to the construction information on the hotel’s web page. The fact the construction information is not noted on the home page is dishonest, and it was only after some searching that I found the construction details under ‘Hotel Info’ near the bottom of the page. (At this point, I would have booked us into another hotel however we were past the point of getting a full refund, we figured we’d give the place a try). Construction takes place from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm and during our stay, this was the case. That said, once construction stopped, the hotel is quiet and we didn’t encounter any noise from the street or neighbouring rooms.

Crib – we booked a crib for our 2 yr old, and the hotel provides good quality ‘pack n plays’ with nice comfy sheets and duvet. Unfortunately on our first stay, the crib was incorrectly delivered to my parents room. On our second stay, it didn’t show up at all.

Pool - The construction notice on the website specifically states “Modern fitness centre complete with luxurious indoor swimming pool, sauna and solarium opening July.” On our second stay, the weather was rainy so I thought my 2 yr old would enjoy a dip in the hotel pool. The button in the elevator for the second floor is labelled Bad & Sauna, but there is no pool or sauna here. I went to the front desk to ask where the pool was and was told they didn’t have one and that I was thinking of their other hotel in Bergen. When I pointed out it says ‘Bad’ right in the elevator and that there were pictures of the pool on the hotel website, I was met with a blank stare. Do they have a pool? Who knows. Nobody at reception could tell me and I never found one.

In the end, we managed to have a total of three quiet, restful nights of sleep here, but we would never stay here again. The level of confusion, disorganization and indifference was truly bizarre.
