My husband travels to Trondheim frequently on business and always stays at the Chesterfield because it is cheaper than most of the other centrally located hotels. We went together in October when he had some business and I tagged along for a vacation. The hotel is in a great central location. Our room was on the top floor and we had a great view, but it was small and the furnishings were worn. The room was a little depressing after dark. The breakfast was fine but not particularly memorable. The hotel staff were friendly. Travel in Norway is expensive so it's good to know about an affordable hotel, but I will try to find a nicer place next time.

Hotel in the centre of the old capital. Room was comfortable and clean. We were with child and extra bed in the room was to the purpose. Near hotel there is car parking. In the hotel you can take parking-tickets. It takes 5 minutes to go in the old docks, where now there are many restaurants or 15 minutes to go walking to the Kristiantsten fortress or Nidarosdomen. Staf was very helpful. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom is clean and clear. Good choice price by comfort for Norge.

The hotel is located close to a harbour, though it was not that easy to reach with a car due to a large number of one way streets in this area. It is placed in a historic building and its inside look is also old style, quite heavy and dark. The hotel offered relatively good value for a one night stay, though there was no complimentary car park available and the street parking was the most expensive across all cities of Norway that I visited along the trip.
Overall cleanliness was OK and all the basic amenities were in place including wireless internet access. On the good sides, there was a complimentary tee and coffee service in the lobby.
The breakfast area was not very large but suitable at least early in the morning. The choice of food was OK though not everything was in good shape (e.g. burnt sausages).
To sum I can recommend the hotel for short stays, but do not expect too much comparing with other Norwegian hotels.

I booked the Chesterfield for its location...walking distance from the train station and (barely) the Hurtigruten boat dock. It is a comfortable welcoming place, if ever so slightly dated. By Norwegian standards, goo value for money. i received a large room at the front with a lovely view over the old city. Room was decidedly untrendy but had all I wanted. Rather simple breakfast. Helpful front desk. good wireless.
