“Supert hotell med SPA midt i trondheim by :D”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

Booked 2 nights at Britannia Hotell through Coop Hotellkupp. Sendt a mail to the hotel just after i got the confirmation about ordering car parking. Got an quick answer that i had a reserved place in the basement.
When we arrived we first got a room long way into the hotel, when we got there the room had a lot of suitcases, so we had to go back to the reception getting a new room. The new room was much better, it was large with a big bed, but it was a little dusty here and there. The bathroom was nice with a hottub/shower. And the room didn't have a pen so we couldnt write on the hotels own review paper.
In the basement it was a BIG Spa department that all guest could use for free, we enjoyed that very much, it contained a pool, a mineral pool, 4 different saunas, foot bad, ice culp, 2 relax rooms. And the personel there was very nice.
The breakfast was served in a big ballrom called "Palmehaven" It was very big, lighty and a lot of space. The breakfast contained everything we needed for a great start of the day.
We are definitive staying here the next time we are going to trondheim :D

Room Tip: Big, but a little dusty here and there

“OK hotel, but faded glamour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

We had an OK two night stay here. Great location in the middle of town, good staff. But this formerly fine old glamourous hotel is in dire need of a makeover. Dated furnishings, sagging furniture, it's just been too long since a renovation. Nothing specific was wrong and our stay was fine, just not great. Was also a bit unimpressed that their fine restaurant and bar were never open.

“not as good as expected”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

Booked this hotel as all other hotels were booked during this period. Was not me first stay in Trondheim and probably not my last, but i will not returning to this hotel. Breakfast is good though, but rooms are old. Bathroom is old, cracks in the washtub, water takes like half an hour to warm up. Slow internet.
Rates for the room very high and increased, probably because of the availability.

“Not even close to 5*”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Britannia is perfectly located, free wifi in the room and the Spa/pool area is great. This review goes for a luxury room, 319, which have a balcony and facing the street. Ask for a room in this part of the hotel, many rooms are facing a wall.
Old-style hotel, the luxury rooms are big, but all the things you normally find i a 5* room are missing:
- No safe in the room
- Bed is very soft
- Very small closet space and only 7 hangers
- Toiletries are poor
- Poor maidservice
- Small TV with only a few international channels

Breakfast did not hit the 5* mark at all, sloppy is the keyword.

Manna Brasseri at solsiden has great fishdishes, book a table is recommended.

“Good Ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

I stayed for 2 nights attending a convention held at the hotel.

I asked for a quiet room away from the lifts and foot traffic after reading on Trip Advisor that some rooms could be noisy. On the top floor I had a large room looking out on the inner courtyard. The room was quiet and large by the standards of many hotels. The room was ok for me for my two night stay.

The hotel was built in the late 1800s and appears to have last undergone a major refurbishment/rebuild in the later 1960s or early 1970s. My bath had a complicated whirlpool type arrangment that I did not have enough time to figure out how it worked. A couple of controls were missing. Despite one or two tired furnishings I slept well and enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. The hotel certainly has more style than most modern establishments.

The food in the hotel was good. It was evident for example at the breakfast buffet that the fruit had been sliced up locally and in consequence it had taste - unlike the homogenised factory supplied standard size chunks of fruit provided in moist chain hotels.

The price for the room and breakfast was not inexpensive but probably comparable to most hotels in expensive Norway.

I would stay at the hotel again.
