I usually stay at 5 star hotels so I have some point of comparison with this one. The lobby is beautiful and the lobby bar, cafe and hipper second floor bar (which is not run by the hotel by the way, so no charging to room) are very good. The location really can't be beat--a short walk to the harbor, buses and metro across the street. The room was disappointing--I booked with a concierge service and requested a light room and got a room facing a large air shaft. The floors are laminate, the room (a deluxe by the way) small and the decor rather 50s motel-ish. Definitely needs an upgrade. The bathroom, however, is spectacular--a large temple of marble with big tub and separate shower. Also there is no way to regulate the temperature in the rooms--if it gets too hot the bellman who showed me to my room suggested I open a window and if it is too cold they will send up a space heater. I had no real problem with the temperature--only had to open the window once--but it is not what one expects in a luxury hotel. Feels like the place could use a lot of renovating.
The fitness room is a joke-two treadmills, one bike 4 upper body machines. But there is free wifi. I thought the breakfast buffet was fine and perfectly adequate and of course there is plenty of smoked salmon.
I liked the staff very much, friendly, relaxed and always helpful although the concierge's "5 minutes walk" is a bit optimistic and she will show you places on a map and tell you "it's right there" when a restaurant is a bit down a side street--it is right there but only if you know, so giving an address and more precise directions would have been helpful.
The clientele is mostly older and affluent and kind of matches the decor so if you are younger or want a more modern vibe this is not the place. Overall, a mixed bag and solid, not great. Would have like to rate it 31/2 stars--somewhere between average and very good.
