“Perfect for single business traveller”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I travelled here for a one-week work assignment in Oslo city at end of October 2011. Chose this hotel largely because of price-plus-location. Location is central and easy walking to shops, bars, restaurants and all things usual for a city centre. Rooms are certainly small, but having travelled extensively in the UK this wasn't a surprise and room facilities are quite modern and workable for a single person. Criticisms elsewhere of size of beds sounds like "giants complaining" as this hotel has very comfortable, standard-sized singles. Availability of free wireless internet is a huge bonus after visiting a number of major chain hotels elsewhere in Europe charging rip-off.prices for WiFi. As a consequence, I have rated the room highly based on what it provides despite its size.
Breakfast is huge ... so many opportunities for multiple courses that weekend breakfasting particularly is a pleasure. My advice - eat out or buy takeaway snacks in one of the nearby DeliFrance or 7/11 types of stores. In-hotel food is expensive and getting food delivered to the room very much the same. $40 for a pizza? Get real and learn to eat small and take advantage of that large breakfast.
By the way, absolutely NO noise from the nearby Irish-type pub on Saturday evening, although you might try asking for a non-street-facing room to be sure of this.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from main entrence, Arbeidergt Street, to avoid noise entirely.

“Tiny Rooms Good Breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Likely a norm in Norway, but we couldn't get past the size of the room. We almost had to brush each other's teeth it was so tiny. If you can't afford to stay in a nicer place with reasonable room sizes, I'd consider shortening your stay purely for sanity's sake. The breakfast was good - which is important considering the crazy costs of Norway. Great location.

“A bed in the city centre, and so what?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Hotel managers, chains in particular, always focus on how to make the enterprise a profitable one. That's an understandable, even acceptable notion, but it is also a tricky one. Because if they, as in this instance, only keep the focus on putting a maximum number of single beds into miniscule rooms without a trace of hospitality or athmosphere, the guests may tend to forget their night(s), or want to, rather than remembering the hotel for their next stay in town. This is one of this hotels, a bed, a room and nothing more. That they even have the gumption to charge extra for a "Double room", which I asked for, is bad. The worst part is that not even in their socalled Suites (the sole exemption being their Bridal Suite), they had a double bed, but rather two single beds put side by side. Not much of a bed, if you're two and if you get my drift!

Besides this, Rica Travel is just an ordinary, forgettable hotel. Their young Swedish receptionist was nice and service minded, their morning one the opposite. Their kitchen staff started clearing the (better than average) breakfast buffet away before 10 AM, which really ticked me off.

“Basic, but everything you need in an EXCELLENT location”

Single room was tiny with no view, but actually had almost everything I needed, including free wifi and a very comfortable bed. Only thing I missed was aircon.

The location can't be beaten, being just a few metres from Karl Johans Gata, ten minutes from the waterfront, tourist information office, hop on hop off bus stop and a few metres from the airport shuttle bus stop.

Breakfast buffet was good, hotel very clean and staff helpful.

“Great location, a little tired around the edges”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

The location is excellent being close to the city centre. Being so close does have its downsides. Saturday ight very very noisy with the nightclub and bar next door. The other nights were fine. We had a family room which was a very good size. Breakfast was very good for the class of hotel.
The rooms was clean and bed very comfortable. Wifi was excellent
Take plenty of money as Oslo is expensive!
