“Arbins gate: great location but poor standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I've been staying in Arbins gate during a period of 5 months in a business matter. The locations is great, I absolutely love it, but the standard is not at all what you could expect from a hotel in the same price range as Hilton hotel. There is a breadish smell in the room which has been impossible to get rid of. Cooking possibilities are very limited (no microwave, no oven, frying pan is dented and all kitchen utencils are Ikea's cheapest). The fridge is noisy and the freezing box doesn't work (I got some food ruined during my first week). Towels are well worn and have holes in the fabric. Vacuum cleaner was useless, even after hotel staff said they fixed it, so I had to buy one my self at Clas Ohlson (same price as getting room cleaned one time by hotel cleaning staff). Fire alarm goes off some times but there's no automatic connection to the fire brigade or hotel reception in Skovveien so you have to call them to let them know their house might be on fire! Sounds from corridor like foot steps, voices and slamming doors, are heard very well in the room and can be disturbing during nighttime (especially in the weekends). Waste collection happens 3 times a week at around 6 in the morning and will probably wake you up. Floor is a bit slippery so the beds keeps sliding apart unless you tie them together (I have done so). Internet connection has been unrealiable last 2 months and bandwidth is usually too poor to allow Skype phone calls with web camera.

If you can live with these things, the location is like I said absolutely perfect. Train station, subway, trams, busses and restaurants are just around the corner. Beds are really comfy and the generous ceiling height gives the apartment a luxurious appearance. TV has plenty of channels and storing possibilities (closet and space under the beds) is pretty good. Laundry facilities in basement is free of charge. I however made sure my visiting friends and family chose another hotel.

“Very good accommodation with kitchen.”

Stayed in the Skoveien apartments: the company has several sites across the city. The room was essentially a hotel room with a small kitchen unit. All the facilities and the location were excellent. Very good value. The kitchen allowed us to save on the very expensive cost of meals in Norway. The reception was very friendly and helpful. We have stayed previously at the Arbinsgate Frogner House apartments which were adequate but not as good as these in Skoveien. Definitely recommend these apartments.

Room Tip: If you are choosing an apartment hotel make sure you have some essentials with you to make tea or co...

Dear Christraveller 17,
Thank you so much for this super review!
I am sure many travellers will appreciate your travel tips, especially the plastic bag charge at grocery stores comes as a surprise to many. At our reception, you can get a reusable shopping net to avoid the cost and spare the environment.

Enjoy your future travels,
and hope to have you staying with us again sometime soon!

“Arbinsgate, 1 bedroom apt.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Had the 'pleasure' of staying at the Arbinsgate apartment building over a long period and would not recommend one to do the same.

For a shorter stay the apartment is adequate, but the kitchenette is well below par (why is it equipped with a heat-resistant tray when there is no oven in the appt? and there's only two glasses, plates, knives, etc..) and the refrigerator is absolutely unusable (I had to store medicine at 2-6°C so I keep a thermometer with me at all times, but the fridge temp. fluctuated immensely and rarely could be kept below 5-6°C - so beware of storing milk or other fresh products that need to be refrigerated). Also the freezer box is unusable.. after storing a box of ice cream over one night, the ice cream turned out to be cream soup!

Cleaning of the room was not included, but could be purchased at some 400 NOK if memory serves me right.. Way too expensive! For that money I could buy my own vacuum and mop.

The only nice thing about the stay at arbinsgate is the location. But for this price I'd much rather recommend a stay at the Hilton hotel..

Dear guest!
I am very sorry you found your stay so disappointing!
I wish you would have contacted us during your stay to let us know of your complaints. We could easily have supplied further equipment for you, as we have plenty of utencils and microwave ovens in store.
We have apartments at several buildings in different locations in the city centre. We would have been happy to show you our other locations as well, as you may have found one of our other apartments more to your liking.
We have made note of your complaint regarding the refridgerator and freezer unit, and made plans to exchange faulty ones more quickly by keeping some in reserve.
I thank you for letting us know of these issues giving us the incentive to make improvements, and hope that we can provide a better service and information for our future guests. If you do decide to try our establishment again, please refer to this review and we will know more about the accommodation requirements you have in order to be comfortable during your stay. We would appreciate the opportunity to make you change your mind about us!

“Really great accommodation in Oslo.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

My family of 4 (7&9 year old children) stayed here for a week in June. We made contact via email with the hotel prior to our arrival and researched the hotel quite a bit prior to booking, so we very much knew what to expect (no front desk, etc.).
We were warmly greeted upon arrival and driven to the Arbinsgate location from the main office at Skoveien. The room was very spacious and had all the essentials, linen, frig, small stove, etc. The street is very quiet and even though there was a party on a nearby balcony one night there was no sound in the room.
We had no issues with comfort in the room, it was warm, but not hot.
Ironing board and laundry facilities are free downstairs.
The building is ideally located, it's very easy to move around Oslo from almost anywhere but Arbinsgate is near Akr Brygge, Slottsparken, National Theater and multiple buses, trams and the metro.
If you are looking for a full service hotel obviously this is not for you but if you are a family spending a few days in Oslo this should be your first choice.

Room Tip: Save some money and stock up the refrigerator.

“Practical solution to problems of expensive city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

Stayed in the Skoveien apartments: the company has several sites across the city. The room was essentially a hotel room with a small kitchen unit, but this at least meant that I could use the 7-11 on the corner and microwave something to eat. In a city where a pizza and a beer can cost you £20 this is a consideration. There is a bakers near by to sort out breakfast. There is a tram line (number 12) outside the door and a lot of other stuff is within walking distance.
