we booked this hotel since we were using my scandic points for a free stay. The hotel as others have noticed is well out of the city centre although it's quite quick to get there since there are tunnels under the hill directly to the city centre (the visitor map from the tromso tourist office does not show these tunnels, which is quite a disaster). There is a shopping mall about 5 mins walk away and we had our dinner there (in the coop supermarket's cafeteria), this saved some money but still cost 10e each for a burger and chips.
By chance we were given the "northern light room" (search the internet for "Scandic Tromso Northern light room"). This had a large double bed facing the window and an amazingly complicated custom lighting setup with remote control and LED's around the edge of the room. Bizzarely we were not told that we were given this one of a kind room and only found out on the second day - until then we thought all the rooms had been renovated like this !!
The room was fun although I never mastered the remote control for the lights which had a choice of many lighting themes to choose from.
The bathroom was not so sucessful and many of the light bulbs had failed - I swapped bulbs from the shelves to fix that. The toilet seat was only fixed on one side, the tap in the sink was very loose and worst of all the bath took about half an hour to empty. I reported this to reception but nothing was done.
