The hotel is conveniently located for the airport (i.e., you can see it from the hotel) - if there are 2 or more travelling, take a cab - the price for 2 on the shuttlebus is the same as for a taxi. The check in was quick and the request for a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the front was handled with a smile an in the affirmative - this is definitely worth doing as the views are stunning. The rooms are old fashioned (80s) with a basic TV and a working empty mini bar (there is a shop in reception). Dinner on the first night was average and you can do better in town for quality, value and choice but you dont go to the Scandic to eat. Bedroom heating is excellent, beds comfortable and plenty of hot water. Breakfast is excellent with a very wide choice, good quality and will fill you up for the day - this was a highlight of the hotel.
The hotel is not close to town if you want to make your own way there via a 20-25 minute bus ride (NOK28 pp) as opposed to a 7 minute taxi ride (NOK170 per trip). The walk to the bus terminal is a circa 10 minutes via a building site (huge shopping mall being constructed). There is a choice of buses and the hotel reception have all the details.
The shopping malls are operational and good - couple of tips - there is a good and cheap Pizza/Pasta restaurant in one of the malls overlooking the mountains and airport - excellent value. There supermarkets sell beer which is much cheaper than bars and restaurants and there is a wine merchant which sells wine (the boxed wine is great value at NOK300 for 3 litres of Muscadet) - all fit quite nicely in the room minibar.
When we booked, this hotel was a good price option compared to City Centre Hotels and we do not regret it as the views were stunning, the breakfast great and the bus ride to the centre a real joy.
