I stayed on this hotel for four nights in February. I was travelling for business purposes and the location is ideal, in the very centre of Tromso. The hotel is very simple. The rooms are tiny and absolutely no-frills. No minibar, no sat-TV and no room service. The rooms are warm, which is absolutely crucial in the rigid Tromso winter. The hotel offers free wi-fi connection in all the rooms. Breakfast is somehow standard and is served in the Egon restaurant, where you can also dine. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly.
I would recommend it if you want to stay in the centre of the city without spending a fortune, but not for a romantic trip.

A okay hotel in the center of Tromsø. We had booked a double and a single room. Double room was very good, single room was not so good. The room and bathroom was very worn. Bed covers were worn and dirty / stained. You could not lie in bed and watch TV. Breakfast was served at Egon restaurant in the 1st floor breakfast was nice, but not impressive.

Like many other visitors to this hotel we could not believe this is classed as "budget".

Positives......
- Incredible value room rates
- Great buffet breakfast included
- Attached to a restaurant (Egon) which has excellent value meals; breakfast is served here
- Friendly helpful staff
- Spotlessly clean
- Central location

Negatives ....
- Absolutely none !

Considerations for other travellers ....
- Rooms are small but perfectly adequate
- Ask for a mountain view room if available, ours was on the 9th floor and was breath-taking
- Taxi from the airport to hotel will probably work out cheaper than the city bus if there's 3 or more of you

I would not hesitate for one second to stay here again and I'll put Thon Hotels on my search list in future. Just excellent.

Looking to stay in Tromso on a budget, this hotel ticks all the boxes. From reading other reviews I think there are different sized rooms and it may be luck of the draw which one you get, the one we got was perfect for our needs, with a great view of the mountains to the south. The hotel is clean, fresh, warm and modern, the room facilities are great particularly the heated bathroom floor and the wonderful shower which always has plenty of heat and pressure to wash away the chill of the day!
The buffet breakfast, served in the restaurant next door was wonderful and a great way to start the day.
The biggest asset the Thon Polar has is its staff, I have never stayed in a hotel where the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful and everyone has a friendly smile! Special thanks has to go to Janniken who sorted out ensuring we had the right room and was always on hand to help with any questions about the town, tours and places to visit. I'm sure all the other members of staff would have helped in the same way, but Janniken always seemed to be there to answer any questions.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Thon Polar to anyone visiting Tromso!
