“Brilliant base to explore north Norway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Excellent breakfast with free fresh fruit, tea, coffee and even waffles in the afternoon! Rooms are comfortable but not superb (who cares as you won't be inside for long). Lots of tv channels with English, great shower and good beds. Hotel has a sauna and a brilliant library with Chesterfield wingback chairs, sofas and plenty of books to read. I got a very good deal on the room so was fantastic value. Well fed, watered and staff very friendly, helpful and polite. The waffles were delicious, I had space to lick my bike and the library was great to relax and watch the sun 24 hours a day during summer. Can't recommend thus place enough for active holidays or just a relaxing stay.

“Just fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

Nice, clean, professional. Nice extras like the "Help-yourself-making-your-own-waffles" in the lobby (quite common in Norway), and a free evening meal (basic cold buffet, more or less like the breakfast). Free wi-fi, but very very slow (almost unusable) at typical peak hours.
Breakfast was fine, the usual Norwegian buffet. Before 9 AM the coffe was served at the table in a cafetière (French press), far too watery for my taste. The machine coffee served after 9AM was better. There was also a person frying everyone's egg at their taste - like in Britain - but bad ventilation, so the egg smell filled the entire breakfast room. Any egg allergic would need to have their breakfast in their room.

“Revisit: Not as lucky with my room this time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2011

I wrote a prevoius review in October 2010. Everything was the same this time, except that I found the room I got this time to be not as good as the last one. It was located in the main building, facing the courtyard, where a ventilation shaft at the adjacent laundry kept making noises. Also, the bathroom was not very good, with water from the shower drenching the floor.

All in all, I'm still happy - but would request a room not facing the back yard next time.

“Good hotel a little outside the town center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

The hotel is located just above central Bodø, halfway between the coastal steamer dock and the airport - about a 15 minutes walk to each. The entrance is not very conspicuous.

Checkin was fast and friendly. The hotel was seemingly renovated in the mid-1990s or so, but doesn't show obvious signs of wear. The hotel property is split between two buildings on opposite sides of the road. To get into the part opposite the reception, you have to walk through a underground bypass between the basements of the buildings. It seems a bit awkward, but works OK once you get used to it (it looks much alike the other corridors of the hotel).

The general style of the hotel is dark parquet floors with (fake) leather chairs. The room was adequate in any way, it was a bit cold on arrival, but the heating panels were individually adjustable. The windows could not be left open without leaving them wide open to burglars and the winds (which are very prevalent in Bodø). The room had a 32" TV with 30 channels or some, mostly Norwegian and Swedish ones.

The bed was OK (if maybe a bit hard for someone's tastes). The bathroom had a sink and a large (but narrow) shower - and the shower provided LOTS of warm water, something that is often lacking in many hotels. The towels were large, soft and in plenty supply.

The hotel lobby has a sitting area with sofas and chairs and a fireplace. Fruit, waffles, coffee and tea is provided free of charge. Other drinks can be bought in the reception.

Fast, free WiFi (without any need to logon) was available everywhere.

There's also a small gym with a sauna, you have to pre-book the sauna so they can heat it in advance.

The hotel restaurant provided decent, home-made food (not just the pre-made junk most hotels offer these days). The breakfast had a good selection. On weekdays outside the summer season, they are supposed to have "breakfast chefs" who can prepare pancakes and omelettes according to your choice. Those were not present during my weekend stay. The same applies to the free supper that is advertised as being offered on Monday-Thursday night.

The staff were very friendly, but i did not put them to any challenging tests. :)

All in all, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Bodø (I've tried most if them). It is much more personal than the large Bodø Hotels (such as Rica and Radisson Blu). It's an excellent choice if the price suits you and you don't need a fancy bar etc.

lacking in pretty much every respect - service, the room and the breakfast. we were far better off staying at the Rica hotel in Bodo the week before, for much the same price. more attractive location too.
