“Good hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Stayed at this hotel for one night in the end of August. Friendly staff, centrally located, if you get a room with a sea view, you're in for a treat! The room was rather small, but very tastefully furnished, and the sleep quality was good. The bathroom is really small, but serves its purpose. Breakfast was good. Conclusion: A nice hotel centrally located - would stay there again!

“Not clean”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

This hotel has the advantage to be close to the center and give an impression of high standing with its nice facade, but my few nights stay have not been relevant about the tidyness of this hotel.
After my daily hike I found some unclean blankets in my room and the bathroom wasn´t clean enough.
Just to remind you, the room costed about $280 / nights.

“Close to Hurtigruten dock and central to town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Had a stayover at this hotel coming in very late on Hurtigruten from Lofoten. Typical nice average hotel that is both close to the city center and Hurtigruten dock. We almost didn't get any breakfast because the person in the reception the night before had given us the wrong time (missed by 30 minutes), so we entered as they had already started to remove the food. We grabbed a few things from what was still there but right after us came some others that also had been told the wrong time. So then we joined our complaints and made the kitchen at least put back some basic food for us to enjoy. Pity because it seemed that they had a good buffet that we didn't get to enjoy fully.
I remember the room as quite big, but apart from that nothing fancy but ok.

“Friendliest staff I've ever encountered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

I stayed in Bodo to make contacts with new colleagues and see some of northern Norway before heading down to a conference in Oslo. It was somewhat past tourist season and there was no transportation to Kjerringoy for tourists. The hotel receptionists went out of their way to help me find a way to get there anyway. I cannot thank them enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Staff like this make the stay memorable.

Room Tip: I had a room with a view of the harbour. Ask for it. The changing light over the day makes the view...

“A badly maintained hotel catering mostly to one-night stays for tour buses”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of July for four days. The rooms are very basic, and not especially clean. You could see a lot of dust under the bed and even some dust clusters in the corners had not been cleaned during our stay. The hotel has a small area for parking (for extra charge) at the back on the ground level. That area is open to the street - anyone strolling along the pathway can walk in. What was my surprise when I saw - right there, in the parking garage - trolleys with clean linens and towels standing there, every day of our stay! Apparently, they use it as a sort of storage area for linens. I think this is not acceptable.

The staff is generally friendly and helpful within the limits of what they can do. Breakfast is crampled, and the selection is decent, but the quality is cheap.

Every day we saw one or another tour bus pull up to the hotel in the evening, discharge about 50 to 100 passengers - from all sorts of countries - to stay at Rica hotel overnight. This seems to be the main source of clients for the hotel - a tour group stopping there on its long winding journey along the Norwegian coastline. As a result, at times, the lobby is packed with these tourists like sardines in a can, and the same applies to the breakfast room. If you manage to find the time when they are gone, it is much better.

I have not stayed in other hotels in Bodo, so it would be hard for me to compare Rica to the prevailing standard in the area. Looking just at the buildings, it appears to be not very high. That said, the glowing reviews on this board of this hotel are certainly exxagerated, in my opinion.
