This is great place for a bit of genuine-feeling Norwegian home style, but in a medium size hotel that offers a lot of facilties and exceptional food. Run by several generations of the Rustad family for decades. The location close by the lake is lovely, and the hotel is well located for the cross country skiing trails. There are a number of cozy and attractive public rooms to choose from, there is no bar but you can obtain a full range of drinks from reception. The fixed menu dinner is exceptionallly good (think 'modern Norwegian' ) though the single start time of 1830 is a little inflexible. The rooms are comfortable rather than 5* luxury, but represent good value for money. More towels and pillows would have been appreciated. There are his and hers saunas, but no steamroom or other fitness facilties. Both Sjusjoen and the hotel are very quiet, avoid if you are seeking much in the way of nightlfe, but peaceful by the same token. Cross country skiers will appreciate the fantastic ski prep room and store, also the small ski rental and essentials shop (Sjusjoen boasts two very good full range ski shops).
