One would have expected that when a hotel receives a conference order of 300 delegates it would use the opportunity to exceeds standards in order to secure future business. Not so in this case. In fact I am surprised that the hotel is part of the renowned chain "Radisson Blu".
For a start, my room interior was a blast from the past. Very worn and general poor quality of the interior. The lamp screen was (wine)stained and the bed did not have a top cover. To top this, the room was insufficient heated and the windows (French balcony doors) could not be closed properly - in fact I woke up in the morning because I was freezing underneath the duvet (outside temperature of approx -20C). The buffet lunch was pretty good, but sadly not enough to raise the overall view of the hotel. The banqueting dinner was a sad story too. very dry and tasteless meat, although the boiled potatoes and vegetables were good. and the wine. On day two we were served very dry and uninspiring sandwiches (hotel should be ashamed!). The conference room was also very cold - has to use outdoor jacket! The overall service was poor. This was a business trip - but I am not tempted to return. Thumbs down!

“Old, expensive and forgetable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Went to a two day conference here in June. It's quite far from the city center, and you will need to walk a good distance uphill to reach it.

The hotel is one of (if not THE) oldest hotel in town, and it shows. Interior wise it looks old, a bit shabby and out of fashion. The food nothing special as far as I can recall, but keep in mind that most Norwegian hotels do their food very good indeed. That is, if you think you can afford it, and if it's worthwhile. I apent the evening at the hotel bar watching football on a TV screen. They charged an amazing 90 NOK for a Guinness in a can. Yes, IN A CAN. Needless to say, I didn't buy any more beers from them. Canned Guinness isn't superb in a can anyway, and with that price on top, it's all comedy-night from there on out. If they had lowered the prices to half I might have actually spent more money than I did, but with these abysmal prices, I had no desire to give them any more of my money.

Here's another odd experience. I had my wife with me, and she requested hot water for her oat meal in her room. And so, I went downstairs to ask for water. Turns out, it was not very easy to find hot water. They have no regular boiler in the room (which even the shabbiest of British B&B's got), I asked at the bar first, and he looked as though I had asked for a pot of golden rubles. He managed to collect himself as much as to explain that he wasn't sure where to get this hot water, but eventually managed to sneak into the hotel kitchen to boil up some. I got my water, but really, should it be so hard?

This hotel is alright if you don't pay the expenses yourself. I am fairly sure this is how they make their money anyway; from businesses, government and other official institutions. I see no reason at all why I should pay for a stay at this hotel at all.

If you're a tourist, just live in a trailer or do like the Germans; bring your minivan and sleep in that. It's simply not worth the money or the service to stay here.

“Nice hotel, but nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The Radisson Blu Lillehammer hotel is placed abit out of the city center (10 min uphill walk from the train station) and gives you a decent room for the night, nothing more, nothin less. It's abit short of the standard I have come to expect from Radison Blu hotels, but the staff was pretty friendly, and the rooms were decent sized and clean. The breakfast buffet was good.

I would say that the hotel could need some renovation, allthough the almost rustic interior gives a cozy feel it also looks abit worn down. Especially in the dining area.

“The hotel needs a renovation and a lot better soundproofing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed here one night for my father's birthday.

We have small kids, so we needed both a quiet room and an extra bed.

We lived in a junioir suite, and there was extremely much noise from a christmas party in a hall connected to the hotel. Actually our kids didn't sleep until 01 o clock at night because of the noise (they have a new-built party hall connected to the hotel, but they haven't done anything to make the rooms nearby soundproof).

One other serious remark:
We needed a baby cot for our kid. The cot that was placed in the room was almost falling apart. One of the stick was missing completely, and some other were broken. Actually IT IS VERY POSSIBLE FOR A SMALL KID TO DIE IN THAT BED!!

Generally the hotel has seen better days. My family have been there from time to time since I was a small kid, and my experience is that nothing has changed.

The rooms are not cleaned very well. In the shower we found mold on the wall.

The hotel has a restaurant with generally OK food (OK, but not more). The prices gives you an impression of being a gourmet upper class restaurant, but the food is unfortunately not worth more than half of the price.

Breakfast is OK, but nothing more (it would have been approved at a hotel with much lower prices). For example they don't have a good coffee machine - like other hotels (including budget hotels) have these days.

The location is not very good. It is not VERY far from town, but there are very steep hills from the town up to the hotel. If you are travelling with small kids and a stroller you will get very sweat on your way up.

Good sides of the hotel:
There is a lot of place for kids to have fun.
The staff is very smiling and helpful (except from the manager).

All in all:
The hotel is not good enough for the price. I would have given it 2/5, but the baby cot that was indeed dangerous for kids to sleep in tells me that I have to give the hotel the worst possible character.

Room Tip: Don't choose the junior suites in weekends if you need a quiet room.

“Stay away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

For several years we used Lillehammer Radisson SAS Hotel when visiting old parents who live in the neighborhood. Eventually, service and standard was deteriorating and we have selected another hotel during the last 2 years.
In connection with my husband's 60 years anniversary we chosed Radisson Blu (which is the new name of the hotel) this time because we had many guests and among them 4 small children. The hotel is spacious and has plenty of room for active young children.
First, the staff is very friendly.
We had booked 3 mini suites for more space and a bit of comfort - we thought.
These mini suites must be called outdated:
Ugly stains on the carpet. One reading lamp beside the bed was out of function. The armchairs worn out and therefore uncomfortable to sit in. The drain in the bathroom was tight and the water flowed over the bathroom floor, especially far from the drain. Down the edge of the shower curtain we found mold. There were no wash-cloths in the bathroom (although the staff provided small towels on request), and no toiletry except from dispensers on the wall - unusual in suites. And we had to ask for a box of Cleenex. One child bed almost fell to pieces when the child was placed; we got it replaced late at night.
In addition there was a big party event in the hotel with almost 500 guests and heavy music, which ment a lot of noise. It was difficult for small children to sleep. It must be said that we were informed about the party and possible noise in these rooms in advance, but we did not really expect that heavy noise coming through the walls and wondows i a 4 star hotel rooms (suites) priced to NOK 2.700,-.
Our own party dinner was average and not worth the price. Nice restaurant staff though. Breakfast was below average: Poor chose, low quality.
We talked to the hotel manager at midnight, about the noise in particular. I must admit I was angry and a bit agressive. We got no exuses. If there was too much noise we coudl get another (smaller) rooms. Well, it was midnight - who wants to move families with small children and all the stuff at such time?
Then we got her final remar: We are not the target audience of her hotel!
We eventually got a 20 % discount on the rooms (which were quite expensive in the first place).
