We wanted a nice place to stay for our Christmas holiday break in Vienna and booked this hotel for Euro 65/night INCLUDING a breakfast buffet and were thrilled with the value for our money!
LOCATION:
The Courtyard Marriot is a 5-minute walk away from the Schönbrunn underground station which will take you all over Vienna in a matter of minutes. You can also change to the S7 Express train at Wien Mitte/Landstrasse for an easy (and very cheap) ride to the Vienna airport.
Schönbrunn castle with its gardens and zoo is also 5 minutes away and in the vicinity are also many pubs, restaurants and cafes. All in all, a perfect and cheap location for a Vienna holiday!
THE HOTEL ITSELF
The hotel is quite basic but is immaculately clean and has everything a travellor needs-lobby, bar area, restaurant, business center and small gym area. There is also a small "market" where you can buy some sandwiches, drinks and snacks, but they are a bit pricey and you will do better stocking up in a small grocery store, which there are a few of in the area.
The hotel staff is VERY friendly, polite and helpful and we felt very much at home. We expecially liked the staff in the restaurant/breakfast room who were always cheery and polite , even though they had to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Check in and Check out were also quick and smoothe.
THE ROOM
We had room 215, a King room on the second-floor front side of the building. As mentioned in previous reviews, our room was facing the street, but we heard no traffic at all. This might have been because of the electrically closeable metall jalousie on the front, which blocked out the light and ensured a good night's sleep. This room is also the last room at the end of the corridor and therefore there was no "traffic" outside the room.
The furnishings are basic and funtional. Everything is very well planned and the color scheme is bright and up to date. The king-sized bed, with crisp white sheets, a large duvet and 5 fluffy pillows was VERY comfortable. There were night table lamps AND LED reading lights which did not bother my husband's sleep at all. The flat-screened tv was on the wall opposite the bed and we could "zap" all night if we wanted to. There was a "pantry" area with an empty minibar/refrigerator (thank you!), a coffe/tea kettle and cups and glasses. Lost of drawer and closet space too, so we could unpack our suitcases and stow them away in approprate places so they were not in the way. In the closet was a room safe for our valuables and an iron/ironing board. Laury service is available upon request. We also had a comfortable chair and small table. There is also wi-fi and internet in the room, BUT this is VERY expensive (a very small down-side for us) so we didn't use it. The room is carperted and as we all know, carpet does have its down-sides whe it comes to hygien. The carpet in our room was a bit dirty and stained, but that is normal when people do not take off their shoes in the rooms.
The room was quite warm when we arrived, but all we had to do was turn on the climate controll and it cooled down nicely in a matter of minutes.
THE BATHROOM
The bathroom was good-sized, tiled in shiny white tiles with a tile floor and was immaculately cleaned every day. The shower was just as clean and had a large shower head and great water pressure. Plenty of fluffy white towels which were changed every day if it was our wish.
The granite-topped sink was at a comfortable level and the large mirror in front and a magnifying make-up mirror added to the comfort. The amenities were replenished every day and there was also a built-in hairdryer.
BREAKFAST
Some people have complained about the price and the selection, but if you try to get a deal with breakfast included, you will not be sorry! The buffet has many kinds of breads, rolls and pastries with different jams and spreads. There is a large selection of cold-cuts and cheeses, but also boiled eggs (hard and soft) scrambled eggs, GREAT crispy bacon, sausages, fried potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and baked tomatoes Many kinds of yoghurts and breakfast cereals and a table of condiments and fresh vegetables to spice up your breakfast. Coffee teas and juices and my favorite FRESH fruit sallad made of pineapple, grapes, different melons, oranges grapefruit, kiwi----you name it, they have it! There is absolutely nothing to complain about here and if you indulge in breakfast you will get through many hours of sight-seeing before you need to stop at a Vienna café for your Wiener melange and sachertorte!
All in all our experience was very positive. If there was anything to be mentioned as negative it would be the cost for internet AND the fact that, even though there were many tv channels to be watched in the room, All but CNN news, BBC NEW and SKY news were in German , dubbed to German or in other foreign languages (even al Jazira....)which may be a problem for those who do not speak German. A few English speaking film channels would have been nice, but....who goes to Vienna to watch tv!!!
Room Tip: Room 215 at the end of the corridor is large, quite and very comfortable!
