“Exactally what we were looking for...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

I found this hotel to be at the very least adequate in all areas. 2 friends and I were spending one night in Vienna to take in the Euro Cup 2008. We wanted a room large enough to accommodate the three of us, have a private bathroom, and not pay too much for it.
The hotel is located out of the main downtown of Vienna, but right across the street from Schonbrunn Palace, a popular site in the area. However, in about 5 minutes you can walk to the subway station were trains in and out of downtown run often, and the ride is a short one.
The hotel staff was excellent, we arrived well before check-in time on our first day, and the staff was happy to store our luggage until the room was ready. Upon checkout, we had several hours before our train was to leave, a different front desk attendant again took responsibility our bags. The lobby has a computer where the internet is free, as well the hotel is serviced free wireless, that I was easily able to hook up with on my iTouch. The room was surprisingly large, and would have easily slept 4, each with their own single bed.
The hotel stay was exactly what we were looking for, with respect to room size, and affordability.

“Dreadful hotel - never stay here through choice”

This hotel is awful. It took 30 minutes to find our room and it turned out that we were in the run down apartment block next door!!! Decor was terrible, it felt like we were in the 1930's - and not in a good way, finding it difficult to find the appropriate words to describe the room. To call it 4 star is crazy - possible MINUS 4 star.

The only positive thing was breakfast in the main hotel was reasonably good.

“This hotel has the Friendliest staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

The pluses:

Kaiserpark Schönbrunn has the friendliest staff I have ever met. They really make an effort to know and to serve their guests.

The breakfat is good.

The location is good: Subway station is close by and of course the Schönbrunn palace is only a short walk away.

It is an old building and therefore the rooms are very tall.

The rooms facing the inner courtyard are totally quiet.

The minuses:

I don't think it is really a 4 star hotel, as it says. In my opinion Kaiserpark Schönbrunn is a good 3 stars hotel.

Only the rooms facing the street have air-conditioning. The rooms facing the inner courtyard do not have air-conditioning. This might be inconvenient during the summer.

The beds could be more comfortable. I have a bad back, so a comfortable bed is important for me. This bed was definitelly not the worst hotel bed I have experienced, but it was not very comfortable either. It was a bit on the hard side.

Our room had a miniscule television.

  • Disliked — No air-conditioning in our room.

“Good cheaper option, a little out of the ring (but close to the palace)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2008

An older hotel, but still clean, neat and tidy. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean and the staff were friendly - so all the big things covered. The included breakfast was fantastic. Cheaper than hotels in the ring, but only 9mins by U-bahn from the centre of town (100m walk, runs til midnight every 4mins peak/8 mins off-peak, free with the Vienna Card). Very close (200m) to the summer palace of the Hofburgs which is also worth a look.

  • Liked — Good value and location despite being out of the ring.
  • Disliked — Couldn't book direct via internet

“Took one look at our room and left”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2008

We were booked into this hotel by the Vienna Tourist Board the morning of our arrival as they had stuffed up our booking with another 4 star hotel. We took one look at our "double" room under the stairs (two skinny twin beds at opposite ends of the room, holes in the bedlinen, broken chair and ugly 1970s laminate fixtures), and left. Not a decision taken lightly as it was the 30th of December and there appeared to be no other accomodation in the city, but I would have rather slept in the airport. This is no four star - More like a 2 star. Don't be fooled by the rating.

Stayed December 2007
