My God, did I pick a dump this time. I'm usually very lucky when picking hotels, but this time I got it wrong. I thought I was staying in a Youth Hostel and not a hotel. It was very badly furnished with damaged and poorly repaired cheap chipboard beds and furniture. Mould was rampant in the shower. The "hotel" walls were a canary yellow and were dirty through-out. (I do have photos but as they are on my iPhone I am having difficulty exporting them, but can be available by e-mail if required)
I met some pleasant and competent staff during my stay, but on the Saturday when we returned from our day out they had locked us out of our rooms as we had not yet settled our bill, were were not leaving 'till the next day and there was never any question or issue about the bill until then. Added to this, the incompetent staff had now surfaced and I watched a farcical receptionist dig herself deeper and deeper into the s**t, through gross incompetence and sheer arrogance,
The breakfast, which was not included in the price was adequate and the breakfast room was clean and the staff efficient.
Smoking was permitted inside the "hotel" which for me travelling with young children was a major no-no. The reception area was in a perpetual cloud of cigarette smoke. This is where the internet access was, and if you were happy to sit in a cloud of smoke, then surf away.
Location was not central and if you like looking at human faeces all over the streets and staying in low rate and poorly staffed "hotel" then Hotel Geblergasse, Vienna is for you.
