“good location ,right next to the west bahnhof in vienna”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2007

good location of hotel, next to the west railroad station( one of the main railroad stations ) in vienna, close to restaurants, and shopping, location is not the best district in vienna ,but its safe. The hotel is not a 4 star hotel, its a 2.5 star hotel, decor of my room was dated torn curtains, roomok relaxing and clean,i stayed for 4 nights,i was under the impression that breakfast was includet ,the desk clerk informed that it was not,it was not a big problem for me.Before i left i paid my bill with my credit card.Since the i have received every month new charges on my credit card for different amounts, from first $ 1.27,then $22.60.then$122.45.then $377.60,the credit company is dealing with this.I had and still have a very frustrating time to get every things resolved. So i certaintly would never ever stay in this hotel again.

“Do not stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2007

It is not a four star hotel at all. The room was not clean, I had to move the bad as something falle down, and the dirt under the bad was terrible. The room is noisy, although I got an inner room, but the airventillation system gives a very loud noise. The price is very high for this quality that you get there.

“Don't stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2007

Reasons not to stay at the Westbahn Hotel Wien: 1) my room smelled like gasoline, 2) the room was not clean, had worry about beg bugs, carpet was very bad, stains on the covers, 3) room was noisy with people running in the halls, 4) when I reported to the desk person that my room smelled like gasoline he said it could not be switched (but later I was in the lobby and heard there were still other single rooms available), 5) room was very hot, with window open it was loud/with window closed it was hot and smelled like gasoline.

Reasons to stay at the Westbahn: 1) it is close to the train station, so if you have a choice between sleeping in the train station or sleeping at the Westbahn you MIGHT want to sleep at the Westbahn.

In summary, this was not a good place to stay.

  • Liked — Absolutely nothing, this is the only hotel I can say this about on 3 weeks of travel
  • Disliked — Smelled like gasoline, hot, noisy

“Average City Centre Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2007

This property sells itself as a 4* "garni" (bed and breakfast hotel) - but in essence it should be no more than 3*.

I stayed here for approx 3 weeks on business in Jan 07.

Location:
Excellent. Right beside the train station and underground and 5 minutes walk from one of the main shopping streets. From a location point of view, a very good base for visiting Vienna. Rooms to the street side, despite being double glazed, can be quite loud.

Reception:
Reception staff, while relatively friendly, come across as cold and disinterested. A good example of this is when arriving back from the office in the evening (with laptop bag and jacket) I asked if it would be possible to get an iron/ironing board "sent up". I was asked to hold on for a minute - which I did, and when the receptionist came back, he handed me both iron and board (into my 1 free hand) to literally drag up to the room myself. Despite being there for such a long period, not once did anyone ever greet my by name. This is not good enough at a (self proclaimed) four star level.

Free of charge internet access at 1 PC in the lobby.

Facilities:
I had quite a big room (junior suite I would say). The bed was comfortable, but the top bead spread was badly stained. There was a desk (with internet port), an extra table and chair, and a small couch unit. The bathroom was a normal size and clean (with a bad crack in the sink).
(Charged) tea and coffee facilities are provided. However, on 3 occasions, the used cup/saucer were not cleaned or replaced and simply left as is on the coffee table. Internet speed was OK, but was charged per 30 minutes. Safe is also provided. The TV was tiny (small portable) and there was a problem with the colour settings.

Despite what other people have said in this forum, the hotel does not offer wireless intenet.

Food:
Staff in the breakfast room are efficient and for the most part friendly. A good continental breakfast with, eggs, cheese, meats, cereal, yoghurt, tea coffee and sparkling wine ! Breakfast room is comfortable and nicely decorated. This room doubles as a (kind-of) bar in the evenings, served by reception. However, I never once saw anyone having a drink there. Otherwise in the evenings, no other food available.

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — Overall service and frendliness.

“Hated Westbahn, Couldn't wait to leave this hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2007

We stayed 2 nights at the end of December. The room was a small box. The room was so small, there was practically no space to walk around the bed. I had to jump over my partner to get to my side of the bed. The first morning, there was no hot water, it must have been used up by other guests. The bathroom was split into two small rooms, one the toilet, the other the sink, shower. Overpriced for what we got; also breakfast was not included. Location was ok, next to the Westbahnhof trainstation and u-bahn/tram stations. Easy to get into town. I would not stay at this hotel again. Very unpleasant.
