We stayed at the Austria Trend Albatros from 29-31 Dec 2009. We chose it based on other reviews on TripAdvisor as well as based on price. There are many beautiful grand hotels right in the center of Vienna, but they are so pricey! We got these rooms through Expedia for about 80GBP per night. Add to that a 48 hour metro-pass (10 euros) in Vienna, and we did just fine. The hotel is only about a 30 min walk from the center, but there is a Tram (the D line) or the Underground (#4 - Green) that will get you in fairly quickly as well. As for the hotel - room small, but clean and warm, bathroom clean, no tub, shower was ok, although the head of the shower was a bit broken and the spray came out of the sides as well as the holes (this was NOT a big deal at all!), the reception staff are polite and knowledgeable and have lots of maps and information if you ask. There is free wifi in the lobby and a free computer / printer with internet for guest use in the lobby. No need to pay extra for Breakfast as there are plenty of cafes and bakeries around. I'd stay here again if I were on a budget. We were able to travel back and forth during the day (city center to hotel, and back) quickly and easily.

My husband and I just returned from a week in Vienna during which time we stayed at the Austria Trend Hotel Albatros. The hotel and rooms were very clean. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide variety of options. But the best part of the hotel was their friendly and helpful staff. They were always willing to recommend hotels and sites, give us transit information and directions, make restaurant reservations and answer a multitude of questions. We were particularly impressed with their evening front desk manager Nadine. She regularly went the extra mile and always with a smile.

The rooms are small but I find that with most hotels there unless you are staying at the 5 star venues. I found the price very competitive and while it is not in the centre of downtown we could reach it with a leisurely 20 minute walk, via the fabulous public transit Vienna has to offer or by taking a reasonably priced taxi that always arrived within 3 minutes of the front desk making the request.

The staff was very helpful and helped us book train and boat tickets. We were also able to purchase the Vienna card at the desk, a good value for transportation and museum admission. The room was spacious and very clean, although a little warm. We opened the windows. The front desk is 24/7, something you don't usually find in a smaller hotel. We liked it so much we booked the Trend Hotel in Bratislava for the next leg of our journey! Close to the Lichtenstein Museum and Franz Joseph Bahnhof. Great Spar market right around the corner.

The hotel is clean and very comfortable, the room are very welcoming, the bed is great, everything is clean. Hot water 24/7. The area is safe and quiet and very close to centre of the city (20 minutes-walk from Town Hall). The stuff is friendly and helpful.

Haven't tried the restaurant or the internet connection, so nothing to comment on these.
