The hotel is located 2 minutes walk from the Rathouse metro station (Metro line 2), in a very quite side road. Vienna center is small enough to get there by foot.
Rooms are not big but are not too small either. There is a safe in the room. TV is very small.
Shower is very modern though there is no bathtab (shower only)
Room was made every day and kept very clean.
Breakefast was great with a lot of choices.
Front dask ladies where very nice, and smiling. Good English. They are very helpfull and will give you a map of vienna and will be happy to explain how to get to any place.

If you don't care about smoke you should check the Centimeter pub just at the back of the hotel. Very nice food and drink.

We picked this hotel based on the combination price-location-and reviews I read.
We were both a bit disapointed with this hotel.

I would describe it as "what you need (a clean room, a bed, breakfast) but nothing more".
We arrived in the morning around 9.30am but immediately got our room (to our surprise). Staff at the reception was friendly.

Our room was clean but very small. I don't really mind the small size, but it was not easy/comfortable to watch television as the small TV was placed besides the double bed.
The room was very warm but we could not find out how to adjust this.
In the (small) badroom, there were good quality towels on this type of warming rack, which was really nice.

Breakfast was OK; not great but everything we needed; The issue with breakfast is the small size of the breakfast room: not easy to find a seat, and the buffet is not refilled fast enough, so for example: no more eggs, no more breads,... Staff at breakfast was stressed: I could hear them answering quite agressively when another guest asked to refill the coffee.

The good thing about the hotel is the location: very close to the metro (rathaus station) and you can also walk to the inner city. it is only 5 minutes walk to the Rathaus square, where there was a gorgeous christmas market. However, we noted the public transportation in Vienna is really wonderfull. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the subway. so in the end the location of the hotel is maybe not that important.

My main criticism of the hotel is the isolation. You can hear everything your neighbours do, like for example turning on the light. You always have some sort of noise in a hotel, but at hotel Alpha it was really bad.

in general: an OK type of hotel. No special charm or anything but more a "budget hotel" feeling. We would not really recommend it, however if you do not find anything else for an affordable price and are just looking for a clean room, it's OK.

About Vienna: we most of all liked the Schonnbrunn zoo and the Karlskirche.
We had purchased a vienna card at the reception desk of hotel alpha, which is very usefull for the included transportation. However, don't buy it for the discounts as they are very limited and you are probably cheaper with the combi tickets. So maybe consider to just buy a public transportation pass.

I stayed at this hotel with a friend for three nights Thurs – Sat during early December.

First the good points – situated in a quiet side street (no traffic noise) but very close to tramline (No 2) and underground (Rathaus); staff very friendly, cheerful and helpful; plenty of take-aways, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, within 5 minutes walk; buffet breakfast - plenty of what there was; within short walk of museum quarter, ring, etc; central heating worked (after it was turned on) and the room was pleasantly warm.

The not so good points - small “double” room; noticeable musty smell every time I entered the room; double bed - twins pushed together; miniscule shower room/toilet; soft mattress; thin internal walls and gap under door to room; buffet breakfast - limited choice; tiny TV not well placed for viewing.
However, my friend who chose and booked the room had no complaints and was surprised that I wasn’t as satisfied as she was.

I plan to visit Vienna in the Spring but would think carefully about staying at the Alpha again. It was poor value, I think, for the room rate I paid.

Just returned form a wonderful trip to Vienna. My friend and I stayed in the Hotel Alpha, very centrally located, everything was within walking distance. The rooms in the hotel were compact but adequate for our needs. Breakfast offered a great variety of choice and was relatively well stocked. The only complaint I had was the service at breakfast, the staff barely spoke to anyone and people would have to stand about and wait for tables to be cleared. I had a five night stay and this occurred every single morning at breakfast, the hotel seemed to be very busy and the breakfast room was not big enough to service all the guests.
