“nice staff but poor internet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

As some reviewers have already noted, this is not a regular hotel, but more serviced apartments. Staff are not present after 6 in the evening. I knew that before I arrived, and stayed for several months. On the plus side, the apartment was spacious, the staff were very friendly and helpful (really liked all of them!), and the location was very convenient and central. The furniture was Ikea and getting a bit old (think peeling melamine), but that did bother me as much as it did some other people I spoke to. More frustrating was the wireless internet, which was very unstable. Some other residents told me they had given up on it entirely. For people in Vienna on business, this would be a huge frustration, but maybe it would not bother people on a sightseeing holiday. Although irons and ironing boards were available, they were also tired and you had to make a real effort to get one that was OK. So, I ended up with mixed feelings about the Laudon. Oh, and when the temperatures go up, yes, there is no air conditioning, and that gets a bit much.

“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

This family apartment was one of the best parts of our trip. Plenty of space, a kitchen, two bedrooms. Anything we needed was provided. A coffee maker, iron and ironing board, hair dryer. Just ask and they will cheerfully provide. The staff are all very nice, speak English and eager to help. The courtyard is a great place to sit and plan your next outing. Good location that's walking distance to many sights and close to tram stops for those places further out.

Easy to make reservations on their website. Highly recommended.

“Very good accommodation”

Arrived after 6 pm but received keys + helpful advice from the adjacent USW bar. The bar itself is a pleasant friendly place.

The apartment was a standard on the second floor, facing the courtyard. The lift to the apartment is tiny but you get used to it : ). The apartment itself was reasonably spacious and the bed (queen sized) in the bedroom was very comfortable (new mattress?). It had two separate single sized duvets, which was ideal. Wardrobe space is limited but more than satisfactory. One window with curtains and net curtains were also in the bedroom.

The living area was well furnished with a leather 2 seater sofa and separate armchair. A glass topped dining table and two dining chairs are also provided. A full stereo system with CD/Cassette/Radio is included plus TV/DVD player. Two windows with curtains and net curtains were in the living room (all windows are secondary glazed and easy to open).

As has been stated in other reviews, there is no air conditioning but (and it was over 80F when we were there) it wasn't a real problem.

Free wireless internet (normally requiring a reconnect every couple of hours) was easy to access. The reception staff will store your laptop etc for you in the safe if required.

Towels and bedlinen were changed after 4 days as notified.

The kitchen and bathroom were smallish but everything was clean/worked and was fine for purpose.

Tips

. The Rathaus U Bahn isn't far (about 5 mins walk) but we found the No 5 Strassenbahn at the top of the street very handy. It's at the top of the street and goes to Praterstern (the Riesenrad and fun park) in one direction and to Westbahnhof and the Mariahilfestrasse (best shopping street) in the other.

If it's sunny and you want to sit out near the apartment, then there is a small park up the street and first left. It has plenty bench seats and is used by the local children and parents.

There are plenty of good very reasonably priced restaurants very close to the apartments and a supermarket and bank are also close by.

The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful.

All in all, a very pleasant place to stay and we would definitely use these apartments again.

“Could have been better.”

We booked this place for 2 nights. Got a good rate on expedia. We arrived after 6 so the reception was closed, but we had no problem picking up the key at the bar next door. My husband and I were traveling with our adult son. Although our reservation and paper work all showed that there were three of us there was no bedding or extra towel. The phone in our room wouldn't work when we tried to call the number listed for emergencies. We finally meet a resident in the hall who called for us. Someone arrived with in a half hour with the bedding, so that worked out, although the hide-a-bed was very uncomfortable. The shower was broken. Don't bother paying extra for the breakfast. It was pretty bad, a few buns and a couple of apples appear in a bag outside your door in the morning. Nothing like some of the great breakfasts we had at other places we've stayed. No blow dryer, no ice. I guess that's what you get staying in an apartment hotel but we wouldn't do it again.

“ideal location, very helpful staff, spacious rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

1/2 mile from town hall and nerest tram/tube stops. this isn't 5 star but you're not paying 5 star prices, staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The rooms were clean and very spacious, there are some permanent residents who added to the warm feeling of the place. The small kitchenette in each room was ideal for some basics, saves having to get wrapped up to go out for breakfast. The hotel does offer a self-service breakfast which looked good but we didn't need it as there are several small food shops within 2 minutes walk. There are several pubs/restaurants nearby including both neighbours, they were lively but not intrusive so there was no noise interupting sleep. saw some complaints about lack of air conditioning, we were there for Xmas markets so that wasn't a problem and the heating certainly worked.
