“The best place to stay in Vienna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

The hotel is superbly located just 15 minutes from St Stephens and in easy walking distance of the centre. It's also very handy for the airport bus that goes to/from Swedenplatz as this is only a block away from the hotel. There are a number of good restaurants around (especially if you're a sushi fan) and a handy Spar Gourmet, but the centre is so close it's easy to stroll in to find a wide selection with short radius.
The rooms are clean and spacious with the suites a much more interesting and comfortable design than any standard ensuite room you'll find in a normal hotel. Breakfast was also very good with a wide choice for the buffet. Breakfast can also be delivered to the room (which we opted for the day after we got engaged).
The staff were also very friendly and helpful, so all-in-all it can't be beaten for quality and price.

“Great quality in a very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

Stayed here at the beginning of December and while I was due to stay for 2 nights, in the end I only managed 1 night as due to the adverse weather my flight was cancelled.

My friends flew in from Madrid and did make it on the original night but arrived late.
The gentleman that checked them in was very helpful and accomodating and handed them the keys of the suites without problems.

I arrived early morning and was amazed by the size of the rooms...
They are proper suites and the good thing about it that the toilet and bathroom are separated. Also, the rooms have high ceilings and a proper lounge and kitchen area.

There is also a minibar and the hotel prides itself for it´s low prices for these snacks and drinks and to be honest they were pretty fair.

Location is excellent and in walking distance of all major sites of Vienna.

The breakfast is also of really good quality and has 2 options:
* continental buffet breakfast
* american buffet breakfast

The rate we paid came inclusive of both and the breakfast was of really good quality with a variety of juices etc.

Overall a great hotel and definitely a VERY good price for the quality of product you receive. Would definitely recommend this hotel. The sister hotel Starlight suites Renngasse is of similar standard and location is just as good, we past it and it looks similar so if Salzgries is full, try Renngasse: You won`t be disappointed!

“Great location, nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

The hotel was as described and staff was very helpful. We arrived very late and got the last room which wasn't the no smoking room I requested, but it was very big and on higher floor. They moved us the next day including moving our luggage, so no hassle to us. Also, I like the option of not getting having breakfast plan since my husband and I usually have a very light breakfast.

“Very good - be careful about the TV if you have kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

Suite had 2 rooms, 2 TVs. The living room had a couch, desk, sink and microwave, which could be used to heat water. Instant coffee and tea were supplied. The room had a safe, the bathroom a hairdryer. Iron and ironing board were supplied on request. There was lots of space, the carpet was a bit stained, but clean. The furniture was old enough to be out of fashion, but not old enough to be antique. Maybe you could call it "retro".

Wireless internet was available, but expensive €4 per hour, €10 for 3 hours, etc. For checking email it is easier and cheaper to use an internet cafe or MacDonalds.

The location was a major reason for choosing this hotel, and we were very pleased with it. It is handy for walking to the central attractions. There are plenty of restaurants (at various price levels) and supermarkets nearby. The supermarkets are all closed on a Sunday, but there is a convenience store open 24 hours in a nearby petrol station (Schwedensplatz). There is a direct bus to the airport just at the end of the street on the edge of Schwedensplatz. It goes at 20-30 minute intervals.

When booking, be aware of how the breakfast is described; "buffet breakfast" refers to the full buffet (ham, cheese, eggs, cereal, etc) and "continental breakfast" is also a buffet, but you are limited to the bread, rolls, and jam, etc. The cost of upgrading from continental to buffet is excessive. We got a good deal (including buffet breakfast) from otel.com.

There is one thing which was different. There were lots of channels on the TV. CNN was the only English one. One (about channel 36 or so) was a porn channel. You might want to be careful in letting the kids have the remote. Or maybe some of you will regard this as a good point :-)

“Will definitely stay here again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

Have been meaning to write this after staying last year, but am not a big poster. Our stay was so pleasant that it would have been wrong to not give this hotel our endorsement. The location of the hotel was ideal; we stayed 3 days and did not use the car at all. Our parking was in a secure building across the street, though I believe they have another one further down; if you intend to take the car often, you can surely request the closer parking. Yes, the pillows are too soft.; ask for another one. The rooms were nice, if for some reason you want to hang out there. The staff was friendly and very helpful; a real pleasure to deal with. The location is awesome; can walk downtown in less than 10 minutes, or take a train to anywhere else you want to go in the city from a station not even 5 minutes from the hotel. Though I'd never been to Vienna before, I travel pretty frequently, and this in one of the best price/quality rapports I have ever found. Highly recommended.
