“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Room was super spartan - but amazing location and free wi fi - what more could you ask for? If you're looking for a place to dump your bags, this is it. Also has a convenient restaurant attached with friendly, local vibe. Smoking rooms available which I appreciated. Underground a few matters away and a stone's throw from the central square.

“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Excellent location in the city center (in the heart of old town, meters away grom Graben and St. Stefan Cathedral, many stores, cafes and restaurants, close to metro station); Staff - friendly, helpful, proffessionals; Rooms - charming furnishing, clean, all the needed amenities were available; Very good breakfast. Pay attention, that if you do not want to provide credit card details as guarantee, 30 Euro refundable deposit per person will be charged.

“Excellent location”

The Hotel Graben is in a side street off the Graben, famed for it's chique shops. Just a minute walk from the underground and the Stephansdom cathedral in the heart of Vienna. Location really couldn't be better.
Our 1st floor room was very small - swinging a kitten wouldn't have been an option! Two people unable to pass each other at the foot of the bed. Very limited space for clothing storage. The TV was on the mini bar to the right of the bed therefore vitually unwatchable from the bed. Bathroom was also tiny and had room for only one at a time. Beds were ok but the pillows were useless, shapeless foam variety. There were no spares in the cupboard either.
Hotel staff were polite and helpful re directions etc. Breakfast was fine, the usual buffet, not much cooked food though. Not a 4* hotel as listed. Having said this our travel company did say that many of their clients thought the hotel ought to be classified as a 3* and we agree.
The hotel has an affliated Italian restaurant (Trattoria Santo Stefano) which can also be accessed via the hotel itsself, it doubles up as the breakfast room in the mornings. Food and service both excellent. Suprisingly they also have a smoking dining room - not something we see much of these days.
So long as my stay was short I would return to this hotel

“Good value; excellent location”

The location of this property is hard to beat, on a quiet little side street just a half block off pedestrian-only Graben, very near St. Stephen's Cathedral. Personally I prefer a place with a little character as opposed to a sterile chain outlet, and this place dates to the 18th century and has some charm. Room sizes vary. The one I had was extremely small (although high-ceilinged ) with only the bed and a tiny table and chair (no desk, even), so be aware of this, particularly if you are on business and are used to doing some work in your room. There is wireless Internet access (for a fee) at least. The bathroom was well-enough equipped, although also small. There are minimal public areas in this hotel too (only a tiny lobby), although the adjacent Trattoria Santo Stefano serves very good Italian food accompanied by excellent service. This restaurant also is the breakfast venue -- it was a pleasant place to start the day and the buffet included a reasonably good selection of items. The hotel staff, although not overly warm, were efficient and helpful enough. The hotel bills itself as 4 star, and this to be frank is a stretch. However, if you don't mind rather simple, though well-maintained accommodations and want an outstanding central location at a reasonable price, this could be a good choice. I would go back.
