“Nice and friendly...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

Upon arrival this hotel looks nothing special, but it is really nice! The staff is super friendly and gives you advice on everything you need to know. The rooms are nice and very clean. Breakfast has a good variety and contains everything you need. Slept well for our 3 nights and would definitely return...The only thing that did not work was the wifi, but we survived without it...

“Good hotel”

This was our 2nd time at Hotel Papageno having stayed there 8 years ago. We like the location: safe, quite convenient with the nearest tube station about 3 mins on foot.

The rooms are comfortable and clean. Our room faced a side street leading to some road noise but this was more than tolerable and didn't affect our sleep as it quietened down at night. The shower orientation was a bit odd causing water to spray onto the floor but only a minor problem. Free Wifi but reception can be dodgy in the room; better in the lobby where there's a PC for public use.

Breakfast is delicious with a good spread to choose from.

It's within walking distance of St. Stephenplatz and the State Opera house. In the opposite direction, you can easily walk to the Belvedere. A good collection of Gustav Klimt's works are housed in the Upper Belvedere.

There are plenty of good places to eat nearby which aren't too expensive; Artner for fine dining, Chang noodles for chinese and Wieden Brau for beer and ribs (portion enough for 2 average eaters). Waldviertlerhof is a traditional restaurant with charming decor, constumed waiters yet not at all touristy. During our lunch, all the other guests were locals. The food was good and very reasonable. A bit of a walk (10 mins) but worth the trouble. Also nearby is Nachtmarket (5 mins) with shops and many small eateries.

Nearby there are 2 convenience stores and a good technical bookshop which has many English books.

We love the location and the hotel is good value. We would definitely stay here again.

Good Hotel apart from a very rude Mangeress.
Good location, was upgraded automatically when our toilet blocked
Standard continental breakfast
Crap internet
Rooms ok
Warm and cosy
Could do with a re vamp in places but overall good value for money.
Recepionists all very very helpful, just a mangheress with a attitude problem who later said sorry to me.

Would I recommend ? unsure but only because of the mangeress

“Excellent and friendly staff and great location”

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in Papagenos and we found the staff (receptionists) very friendly and helpful. They give precise information of places you want to visit such as which metro station to get off, etc. Tram 1 runs i front of the hotel and Metro station is just 3 min. walking from the hotel. Bed was comfortable and they placed a mini chocolate bar on each pillow when we arrived. They also serve cake, coffee and tea all day long in the lobby (free!!). Very delicious after a long day walking you can come back to the hotel and have a slice of cake with tea! In the bathroom there are Loccitan Shampoo and soap. Breakfast is very nice with different kinds of bread, cheese, milk, salad, fruit. Very nice. We would stay there again! I trully recommend it!

“Good Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Hotels can be costly in Vienna, so I was glad I came across this one. It is conveniently located near a U bahn station and about 20 minutes from the Belvedere Palace.

My room was decent but I did not like the fact that there was no air conditioning. However, when I asked for a fan at the reception desk, one was provided fairly quickly. The breakfast selection was very good.
